Final de temporada de Chess Brothers: "Jaque mate"
En toda buena partida de ajedrez llega un punto en el que cada pieza vuelve a su casilla de origen, independientemente de las acciones que desempeñaron sobre el tablero. Para algunos esto significa el implacable final del juego, para otros es simplemente un un trámite efímero el cual da paso a la nueva lucha intelectual que está por librase una vez más. Peones y reyes comparten el mismo sarcófago a la espera de que un nuevo par de contendientes le dé vida al juego milenario.
La temporada 3 de la Liga de Ajedrez Chess Brothers contempla el ocaso, pero con la intención de "volver a armar el tablero". Esta tercera temporada nos ratificó que la comunidad de ajedrez se mantiene bastante activa en Hive y que el nivel de los ajedrecistas ha aumentado considerablemete, por lo que nos sentimos orgullosos de seguir facilitando estos espacios que ayudan a desarrollar y a promover el deporte ciencia.
Hablemos sobre la ronda final
La ronda número 8 dio punto final a la temporada Sacrificio maestro. Tuvimos algunas sorpresas interesantes encabezadas por bujka, un jugador desconocido de Lichess que parece ser de Serbia, según indica su perfil. Este nuevo y fuerte jugador de la liga debutó de manera intratable, pues con 6,5 unidades de 7 posibles destacó sobre el conjunto de ajedrecistas. @Tunghpong logró un segundo lugar bien merecido y @samostically se quedó con el bronce tras haber derrotado a @eniolw en una partida tácticamente atractiva.

Una de las cosas mas lamentables de esta ronda es que @lucianosky no pudo participar debido a problemas de conectividad y esto le costó puntos valiosos, pues tras la ronda 7 tenía opciones bastante buenas de hacerse con el mismísimo campeonato.

He aquí la lista de los ocho torneos jugados esta temporada: 1ro, 2do, 3ro, 4to, 5to, 6to, 7mo, 8vo
Algunos datos interesantes:
- Tuvimos 28 jugadores registrados con cuenta de Hive, lo que constituye el 42,64% de la población, 3 más que la temporada pasada (35,71%); una mejoría.
- Tuvimos en promedio 25,8 jugadores inscritos en cada torneo, una mejoría sobre el promedio de la temporada pasada que era 20.
- El rating promedio de todos los torneos fue 1923,375, donde el torneo más fuerte ha sido el 7mo con 2073 y el menos fuerte fue el 5to con 1601, este último explicable por el hecho de que fue Ajedrez 960.
- Siete jugadores lograron la asistencia perfecta (@deadleaf, @eniolw, @kintokris, @lighteye, @rodrook, @samostically, @stayoutoftherz) y 3 lograron la asistencia casi perfecta (@lucianosky, @emic y @pereu4ivatel).

Ahora bien, de cara a la premiación final recordemos que se establecieron en las reglas de competición que solo calificarían aquellos que estuvieran registrados en la liga (con su cuenta en Hive) y hayan jugado por lo menos el 50% de las rondas de la temporada. De tal manera que la lista de ganadores es la siguiente:

Como se puede apreciar en la tabla, la consistencia es un factor clave de cara al campeonato, pues el sistema de puntuación Lighteye empleado así lo demanda. En esta ocasión, @eniolw se corona como el campeón de esta temporada y, en opinión de @vjap55, lo tiene bien logrado pues su asistencia y destacada participación en todas las válidas le brindan los máximos honores.
Por su parte, @samostically demostró su valor y asciende a la segunda posición, logrando la medalla plata a base de 138 puntos bien trabajados.
Vemos entonces que @tungphong no pudo retener su título, posiblemente debido a su ausencia en rondas claves, y por vez primera cede la corona, pero aún entra en el podio con el bronce y 122 puntos.
Con estas ligeras variaciones en la tabla de resultados finales podemos apreciar que muchos jugadores se mantienen al acecho en busca de seguir mejorando su rendimiento. Por ejemplo, @agreste tuvó una liga bastante ardua en la que enfrentó a jugadores de alto calibre, pero siguió adelante y obtuvo un resultado bastante importante en el puesto 17.
@Rodrook completó todas las rondas y pudo ubicarse en el puesto 16, siendo su performance de 1596,4 lo cual es un buen indicador de que su fuerza de juego estuvo por encima de su rating.
Una caso similar es el de @schamangerbert, quien finalizó con un performance de 1835,8, pero sus ausencias en dos rondas no le permitieron desarrollar su máximo potencial. Por su parte, @stayoutoftherz se mantiene en el club de los 10 mejores jugadores de la liga.
También vemos que, como comentamos previamente, @lucianosky lamentablemente perdió su oportunidad de estar en el podio debido a su ausencia involuntaria en la última ronda, y ha tenido que conformarse con el 4to lugar, que no está nada mal tampoco.

El sacrificio más bonito
Uno de los premios especiales contemplados en las bases de la liga era el sacrificio más bonito. Pues, como sabrán, esa es la temática principal del evento. Un sacrificio es como esa cereza sobre el pastel que da un toque de estética a la partida de ajedrez. Si bien es cierto que muchas partidas son definidas por otros caminos, la táctica siempre despierta mucho el entusiasmo.
Seleccionar el mejor sacrificio no es tarea fácil, pues la subjetividad es inmensa a la hora de determinar un ganador. Hubo muchísimas partidas con interesantes ataques, pero en esta ocasión esta es la partida ganadora:

Fue un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales. En esta partida las piezas blancas tienen claras intenciones de ataque sobre el rey enemigo. El primer bando entiende que la debilidad en las casillas negras es un factor a explotar y que deben ejecutar sus acciones lo más pronto posible. En este momento la torre blanca de b1 se encuentra bajo amenaza, pero @rafaelquino ignora esto y decide emprender una invasión en el flanco de rey.
Desde el punto de vista de los motores de ajedrez esta entrega de torre no es del todo correcta, pero en una situación práctica las cosas a menudo funcionan, pues defender esta posición con las piezas negras no es tarea fácil para un humano. Hay que hacer las jugadas más precisas con muy poco tiempo en el reloj.
Tras el avance a f6 las negras aceptan el desafío y las blancas embisten fuertemente. La posición resultante es bastante bonita, pues se aprecia como con una torre neta de menos las blancas crearon una red de mate muy vistosa. Por supuesto, habían maneras más sutiles de rematar el juego, pero las blancas consiguieron doblegar al contrario, pues su acumulación de piezas en el sector del rey fue abrumadora. Las negras contaban con algunos recursos para cambiar la situación, pero como mencionamos anteriormente, esta posición es todo un caos para defenderla cuando el reloj no es tu aliado.
Felicidades, @rafaelaquino por el espíritu audaz que hace honor al lema de la temporada.
La mayor sorpresa
Este es un premio que hemos empezado a implementar desde la temporada pasada. Nos parece apropiado reconocer el esfuerzo de aquellos jugadores que dan su máximo potencial y consiguen doblegar a los reyes de los jugadores muy superiores en rating. En esta oportunidad el premio se lo lleva:

El jugador @ropavejero pudo vencer a uno de los favoritos de la liga, @lucianosky, en una partida cuya diferencia de rating era de 749 puntos, una cifra bastante considerable y que deja de manifiesto el empeño que @ropavejero imprimió en este encuentro.
En la partida @lucianosky planteó una Apertura italiana, bastante característica de su juego. La piezas negras optaron por una variante poco convencional, pues contraatacaron en el flanco de rey con la jugada f5, dejando al descubierto las diagonales blancas, las cuales serían rápidamente aprovechadas por su rival.
Con un temprano ataque el primer jugador logró una ventaja bastante importante, pero tras un grave descuido dejaron su propia dama sin protección, lo cual guiaría al bando atacante a un camino sin retorno, pues las negras obtuvieron la ventaja decisiva. Hubo algunos intentos por parte de las blancas, pero la ventaja material era abrumadora y tras una dramática simplificación del juego, @ropavejero consolida su victoria ante el titán de la liga. ¡Felicidades!

ACTUALIZACIÓN 2022-03-18:
Como se aprecia en la tabla, los posts de invitación y recordatorio de la temporada han recaudado 61,840 HBD. Tanto @eniolw como @vjap55 han cedido sus lugares para la entrega de recompensas por ser organizadores. También se ha decidido incluir las recompensas líquidas de este post (8,549 HBD) y un adicional de 4,339 HBD para un total de 74,728 HBD. En la tabla del top de ganadores podemos ver cuánto porcentaje y cantidad de HBD le corresponde a cada uno del 90% de los fondos. Se les recompensó de manera proporcional al número de puntos que hicieron. El otro 10% les corresponden en partes iguales a @rafaelaquino, @ropavejero y @schamangerbert por concepto de premios especiales.

Chess Brothers Season Finale: "Checkmate"
In every good game of chess there comes a point at which each piece returns to its square of origin, regardless of the actions it performed on the board. For some this means the implacable end of the game, for others it is simply an ephemeral procedure which gives way to the new intellectual struggle that is about to be waged once again. Pawns and kings share the same sarcophagus waiting for a new pair of contenders to give life to the millenary game.
Season 3 of the Chess Brothers League contemplates the sunset, but with the intention of "putting the board back together again". This third season confirmed that the chess community remains quite active in Hive and that the level of chess players has increased considerably, so we are proud to continue facilitating these spaces that help develop and promote the sport of science.
Let's talk about the final round
Round 8 marked the end of the Master Sacrifice season. We had some interesting surprises led by bujka, an unknown Lichess player who appears to be from Serbia, as his profile indicates. This strong new player to the league debuted in an intractable manner, as with 6.5 units out of a possible 7 he stood out from the pack of chess players. @Tungpphong took a well-deserved second place and @samostically took bronze after defeating @eniolw in a tactically attractive game.

One of the most unfortunate things about this round is that @lucianosky could not participate due to connection issues and this cost him valuable points, because after round 7 he had pretty good chances of winning the championship itself.

Some interesting facts:
- We had 28 players registered with a Hive account, which constitutes 42.64% of the population, 3 more than last season (35.71%); an improvement.
- We had an average of 25.8 players registered for each tournament, an improvement over last season's average of 20.
- The average rating of all tournaments was 1923.375, where the strongest tournament was 7th with 2073 and the least strong was 5th with 1601, the latter explainable by the fact that it was Chess 960.
- Seven players achieved perfect attendance (@deadleaf, @eniolw, @kintokris, @lighteye, @rodrook, @samostically, @stayoutoftherz) and 3 achieved almost perfect attendance (@lucianosky, @emic and @pereu4ivatel).

As can be seen in the table, consistency is a key factor for the championship, since the Lighteye scoring system used demands it. On this occasion, @eniolw is crowned as this season's champion and, according to @vjap55, one of the editors, he has achieved it well, since his attendance and outstanding participation in all the races give him the highest honors.
On the other hand, @samostically proved his worth and moved up to the second position, achieving the silver medal based on 138 well-worked points.
We see then that @tungphong could not retain his title, possibly due to his absence in key rounds, and for the first time gives up the crown, but still enters the podium with the bronze and 122 points.
With these slight variations in the final results table we can see that many players are still on the lookout to continue improving their performance. For example, @agreste had quite an arduous league in which he faced high caliber players, but he kept going and got a pretty important result in 17th place.
@Rodrook completed all rounds and was able to place 16th, his performance being 1596.4 which is a good indicator that his playing strength was above his rating.
A similar case is that of @schamangerbert, who finished with a performance of 1835.8, but his absences in two rounds did not allow him to develop his full potential. For his part, @stayoutoftherz remains in the league's top 10 club.
We also see that, as we previously commented, @lucianosky unfortunately lost his chance to be on the podium due to his involuntary absence in the last round, and has had to settle for 4th place, which is not bad either.

The most beautiful sacrifice
One of the special prizes included in the league rules was the most beautiful sacrifice. Well, as you may know, that is the main theme of the event. A sacrifice is like that cherry on the cake that gives a touch of aesthetics to the chess game. While it is true that many games are defined by other ways, the tactic always arouses a lot of enthusiasm.
Selecting the best sacrifice is not an easy task, as subjectivity is immense in determining a winner. There were many, many games with interesting attacks, but on this occasion this is the winning game:

It was a fireworks show. In this game the white pieces have clear intentions to attack the enemy king. The first side understands that the weakness on the black squares is a factor to exploit and that they must execute their actions as soon as possible. At this moment the white rook on b1 is under threat, but @rafaelquino ignores this and decides to undertake an invasion on the kingside.
From the point of view of chess engines this rook drop is not quite correct, but in a practical situation things often work out, as defending this position with the black pieces is not an easy task for a human. You have to make the most precise moves with very little time on the clock.
After the advance to f6 Black accepts the challenge and White charges hard. The resulting position is quite nice, as you can see that despite being down a full rook White created a very showy mate net. Of course, there were more subtle ways to finish off the game, but White managed to break his opponent, as his accumulation of pieces in the kingside was overwhelming. Black had some resources to change the situation, but as we mentioned before, this position is quite chaotic to defend when the clock is not your ally.

The Greatest Upset
This is an award that we have started to implement since last season. We think it is appropriate to recognize the efforts of those players who give their maximum potential and manage to beat the kings of the top rated players. This time the award goes to:

The player @ropavejero was able to beat one of the favorites of the league, @lucianosky, in a game whose rating difference was 749 points, a quite considerable figure and that shows the commitment that @ropavejero printed in this match.
In the game @lucianosky played an Italian Opening, quite characteristic of his play. The black pieces opted for an unconventional variation, as they counterattacked on the kingside with the move f5, exposing the white diagonals, which would be quickly exploited by his opponent.
With an early attack the first player achieved a fairly important advantage, but after a serious oversight they left their own queen unprotected, which would lead the attacking side to a path of no return, as Black obtained the decisive advantage. There were a few attempts by White, but the material advantage was overwhelming and after a dramatic simplification of the game, @ropavejero consolidates his victory against the titan of the league. congratulations!

UPDATE 2022-03-18:
As seen in the table, the season invitation and reminder posts have raised 61.840 HBD. Both @eniolw and @vjap55 have given up their spots for rewards for being organizers. It has also been decided to include the liquid rewards from this post (8.549 HBD) and an additional 4.339 HBD for a total of 74.728 HBD. In the top winners table we can see how much percentage and amount of HBD each of the 90% of the funds. They were rewarded proportionally to the number of points they made. The other 10% corresponds equally to @rafaelaquino, @ropavejero and @schamangerbert as special prizes.
