What Makes Katrelba Gobson Lethal

solbon (1).png

Hi All, Welcome to my Weekly Splinterlands Post. Today I am sharing you about my experience in using Katrelba Gobson, one of the Gladiator Card in Earth Element. Recently I am quite often deploying Katrelba Gobson in my line up, however does that mean She is one of strongest?

image.png

The answer is still no. I believe Quora Towershead is the strongest gladiator unit, her presence makes other gladiator hard to get any opportunity to join the line up. Until today when I am not in good mood, I tend to spam Quora Towershead in my line up.

image.png

And I keep winning at a good rate. You can see above my recent battles, there are so many times I spam Quora in. So if you have ever read that some experience users love to bully noobs using Quora, that might be me, THE NOOB BULLIER!!! LoL

But that's not today topic, today is about Katrelba Gobson.

image.png

Katrelba Gobson is one of the good example of what people call as Glass Cannon. She hits very hard, especially due to her double strike ability. Combined with bloodlust, we can say for sure she can kill a unit in every turn... maybe two units in a turn.

image.png

I love to set a combination of Katrelba Gobson and Thane Newsong. Thane will hold up the front line and buff Katrelba Melee Attack with his inspire ability. This way, Katrelba Gobson will have 4 x 2 melee damage per round and this number will ensure her to make atleast one kill for each round.

So that's the main reason why she is dangerous, isn't it? Well for me it is not that which cause her dangerous. The main reason is:

PEOPLE ARE LESS ANTICIPATING HER ATTACKS

This is what I think become the real reasons why people tend to be vulnerable against Katrelba Gobson. They do not anticipate some Bloodlust units drilling their backline.

Most meta will focus it's defense by having a strong wall in front, whether they use a tank or more than one tank. And their back line will focus either to support their tank or build and deliver massive DPS. So it won't be easy to shift your defense which focused on front to the back. It can, but it will change the line up.

But let say, if we decide to focus on backline defense, and our opponent comes without any sneak attackers, we will end up losing badly. Let say our opponent attacks with snipe and opportunity ability, the line up for backline defense are different with what we should use to hold sneak attackers or Katrelba here.

And which opponent do you expect to come, Quora Towershead or Katrelba Gobson?

So bottom line, opponent will less anticipate Katrelba Gobson than Quora Towershead. This somehow makes Katrelba Gobson become dangerous and lethal, because most people do not anticipate her.

Let's pick two battles to showcase this one!!

HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE #1

~Click The Image Above To See the Full Battle~

I pick this battle for the first one. Both side had same meta, in general I can say both are the same. However in term of anticipating opponent, you can see that their defense is mainly withstanding attacks from front.

My defense is more like using a backline tank, Mycelic slipspwan and using goblin Psychic to heal tank. I can say I rely purely on Katrelba Gobson attacks only. However in general, my defense is better against Sneak attack, because my Katrelba is not on the most behind like their

Let see how this go

image.png

  • The battle started with both side buffing themselves and debuffing their opponent. My team relied on tank heal, and their team had that +2 armor from Queen Mycelia protect ability.
  • They came with 8 melee damage, 1 magic damage and 1 range damage per round. They had 10 damage per round.
  • My team had 8 melee damage and 4 magic damage, so our team had a total 12 damage per round.
  • My team hit harder and we have more tanks than them. let see which Katrelba would win this battle

image.png

  • It's a draw in the first round. None bested the other.
  • In this round, their Katrelba made a kill and activated a buff from her bloodlust ability. This round was theirs to claim.

image.png

  • It seemed bad for my team, their Katrelba got the bloodlust and I lost two of my tanks.

image.png

  • and this got worse after their Katrelba Gobson killed my Goblin Psychic. However... My Katrelba Gobson killed their Katrelba Gobson, and things turned on the opposite way after that.

image.png

  • This was the turning point, a point where my Katrelba Gobson started her own show, single handedly swiping her opponents.

image.png

  • They tried to catch up, but my Katrelba Gobson was already too strong at this point.

image.png

  • Round 6 was the last. Good Game

Ok that's our first reference. Both of us using the same attacking pattern, relying heavily on Katrelba Gobson. I have won that battle not because of my line up. I think both of us came with a good line up, and to be honest, her line up was made better against people who came using Quora Towershead or some Djinn Chwala Thorn-tank.

So I won that battle not because of better line up, it's just they did not expect their Katrelba Gobson would be countered by opposite Katrelba Gobson, While I did anticipate that by getting Katrelba Gobson in the middle of formation, not on the back.

That's what make my Katrelba lethal, they do not anticipate having her as their opponent... Ok, one more reference before we conclude this one

HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE #2

~Click The Image Above To See the Full Battle~

Here our second battle, I am using a borrowed account Blakkrrsantan. I have an interesting opponent there, he has that Drybone Barbarian in the backline. It's a good anti sneak melee attacks, however I have prepared for that, I used queen Mycelia protect ability. So if that Barbarian made a retaliate attack, my Katrelba Gobson won't die instantly.

Overall my opponent would rely on Sloan +1 Range attacks, so that Pelacor Arbalest and Prismologist are their DPS. As long they are alive, they will carry that team to win... a simple Sloan-Meta approach, however it's why I like using Katrelba Gobson alot recently. let see how they will survive this

image.png

  • The battle started with both side buffing themselves and debuffing their opponent. They came with a simple Sloan-Meta which buff up range attacks. It always seem lame but in some case they could become lethal too.
  • They came with 6 melee damage, and 11 range damage per round. They had 17 damage per round, a ridiculous high regarding they had one idle units behind, the drybone barbarian.
  • My team had 8 melee damage and 4 magic damage, so our team had a total 12 damage per round.
  • Simple Sloan-meta, with a lot higher range damage than my total damage. This looked interesting.

image.png

  • It's a draw in the first round, same as previous round, only our backline tanks who were heavily wounded.
  • In this round, my Katrelba Gobson made a double kills, and this started to create a gap between our team.

image.png

  • 4 vs 4, we looked equal at this point, however my team had a total 7 damage per round, and they had 14 damage per round.
  • as predicted, my Katrelba Gobson made a kill again.

image.png

  • 3 vs 3, it's a close battle. Again my Katrelba Gobson made a kill.

image.png

  • 2 vs 2 now, they should be winning however my Katrelba Gobson had grown too big. It's a win for me, Good Game

The second battle looks more equal, but to be honest my line up was a bad one. I have a Mycelic Infantry uselessly sitting on the back, because I am afraid I will be countered by Katrelba Gobson too.

untitled.gif

But that's the price I needed to pay for a backline defense. You can see what happens with my opponent, after that Drybone Barbarian fell off, it's steady lose for them because my Katrelba Gobson kept killing their backline squads.

So how did I win that battle? It's not about Katrelba Gobson overpowered them from the start, its more like they did not prepare to protect their backline if their Drybone Barbarian died... and he died first in second round.

This is why Katrelba Gobson gets so lethal, she is actually weak and could be killed by a single attack from the kind of Deeplurker. However her attacking style, which keeps drilling from behind, is very lesslikely anticipated by most players. Having a meta which is less anticipated could bring more high winning rate.

Ok that's all for today, thank you so much for your visit here. See you in Splinterlands Rank Battles!!!
