"Nothing Compares 2 U" is a song written by American musician Prince for his band Family, and was first featured on their album The Family, released on August 19, 1985.

When Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O'Connor first heard "Nothing Compares 2 U" she said "it’s my song". Sinéad O'Connor recorded a version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" for her second studio album, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got", which was released on 12 March 1990, which she co-produced with Nellee Hooper. Sinéad O'Connor has pain in her voice so her voice fits perfectly in the song "Nothing Compares 2 U" and with her amazing performance the song was perfected and became a worldwide hit. "Nothing Compares 2 U"'s lyrics express the feelings of longing expressed by an abandoned lover, and her magnificent vocals make it the loveliest of love songs. Although it is known as a love song, Sinéad O'Connor said that she sang "Nothing Compares 2 U" for her mother, so for her, "Nothing Compares 2 U" was an eternal tribute to her mother, whom she lost as a teenager. Whenever I listen to this song, I think of my mother and it always makes me emotional, sometimes even making me cry. It remains one of the best songs ever for me and is still on some of my playlists.
