NOT SO TACO TUESDAYS : REASON FOR AN EMPTY PLACE

Good Day Everyone

This should be a #Taco-Tuesdays post, a foodie post in our beloved #freecompliments community. However I don't feel good enough to make a good foodie post, so I will make some rant post about foodie LoL.

So this is a foodie post? Well you will find out later, but it is not a foodie post for me. I am sharing you some unpleasant adventure of seeking a good lunch a few days ago.

So this was how it started...

They Opened Again

There is a new food stall near my office, their name is Kantin XXX Reborn. I will censor some of these regarding I will say some bad things about them. So people who know, they can know, but I do not wish to spread bad reputation for some who do not know them or never have any interaction with them.

Their name has a "REBORN" part, which for some people might be an awkward thing. Actually that name has been around for almost 3 decades. The founders, a lovely couple, decided to retire due to old age. Sadly none of their children had any interest in catering, restaurant, or food service industry.

Almost all people around here already know about it, we see how their children was whining and grumping when their parent asked them to help on the stalls. As they grew up, they left their parents doing all the jobs alone, and none knew what those young people did for their live.

tl.dr. due to old age and some illness, they had to give up. Those place was used to be a packed one, because they always kept it clean and tidy so many female workers loved to dine in there. They gave the business (or maybe sold it) to their neighbor who said looking for an opportunity to start their own business... and When the new owner started, it started to fall off, deteriorated, and people left those place.

The place renter has changed several times, less than a year new people always gave up there. Until last month, that name was put back on there. I knew that from the first day, but I kept ignoring it due to bad experience from my last visit. However some people told me that this one was still a family related with the old founder, so yeah... maybe I should give them one more chance. lets bygone be bygone...

IT'S AN EMPTY ONE

I got a bad feeling when I sat there. It's not completely empty, but if your restaurant only has only 2 tables filled and some 4-5 tables are empty during lunch break, you know you get F in that business.

Normally I would walk out straight away, but I convinced myself that there were some cases that empty restaurant had great food, maybe this was one of them. Gave them a chance please!!

I sat behind a fatso who was drinking a cup of coffee talking with his girl friend (oh I was body shaming him?). There was a cat, well she was a dumb cat for sure, kept looking at him. Come on, be real cat please... What kind of cat that asking some food from people who drank coffee?

Maybe she body shammed too, seeing fat guy and thought this fat so must ended up ordering plenty of food too.

Oh turned out she was a racist cat, she was mimicking him by slanting her eyes. That's rude B*****, yes that dude was a fat Chinese guy but that's not how you tried to get his attention!!

That gato realized I was sending some signal about "I am going to kill you if you do not stop making that racial expression". But she kept messing around.

She finally walked out after that man girlfriend got mad and threw some tissue to her...

That's not the only cat in that place. There was another one, a tuxedo cat, I thought he was a young male. But he was dumb too, he sat waited for me for what? Just because his fur and my trouser had same color, it did not have any meaning that I would share my food with him.

When Gato keeps doing stupid things like this, It means they are hungry, not getting enough food... mostlikely there are not enough visitors there so they can't get good food.

MY ORDER : KWETIAU GORENG

I ordered Kwetiau Goreng, or in English it's Fried Kway Teow. In some place this dish is more popular with the name of Char kway teow, because other south eastern Asian especially from Malaysia or Singapore make them famous with that name.

It's a Stir-Fried Rice Noodle, and the noodle we use is the flat one. In general there are two kind of Kwetiau, Fried Kway Teow and Kway Teow Soup. From the name I think you can figure it out, it's all about being dried or being in soup or fresh.

I ordered the fried one, and it was a total disappointment.

The dish was too wet, it's too oily. Fried Kway Teow is not a totally dried one, but it's the same as fried noodle. They are a bit wet and oily, but not THAT wet. So physically it was a big let down.

The taste was awful too, but it's not because it tasted bad. That dish did not give taste of how a Kway Teow should be. It's too sour. A Kway Teow should give a sweet and savory taste not sour. The main sauce should be a sweet soy sauce, not some Oyster sauce or Worcestershire sauce.

I believe this is not caused by their inability to cook. I ate that omelet so I knew well the cook could cook! It's more like they did not know how a Chinese food should taste like. Mostlikely they did not like Chinese food but they wanted to sell that in their menu because it's one of the all time best selling in various place.

So I ended up drying my Kway Teow using some tissues then I added some sweet soy sauce and chili sauce from their kitchen. Atleast this way the taste got a lot better and getting near to what a Char Kway Teow should be.

I ate their Char Kway Teow a decade ago when the old founder was making it herself, the taste was very good... Not great but very good, not like this one. Damn, I really hate if people selling food that they do not even understand how the taste should be.

They charged me 1.5 USD for that, and in Jakarta it usually sold at 1 USD. More expensive but more disappointment? It's a ripped off. I definitely would not come back to that place again, and no wonder the place is rarely full of people.
