Fostering Growth: Supporting Initiatives That Make a Difference

Earlier, I was reading Chorock's post where he shared some statistics about Hive, which aligns with trends I’ve noticed in recent months. Hive's price has been holding up nicely despite the volatility in the overall crypto market. Additionally, more Hive tokens are being withdrawn from exchanges, finding their way onto the blockchain and being staked. Platform activity is also improving, with an increase in both posts and comments.

This kind of news excites me because it shows the potential for even greater growth, especially as Hive’s price continues to rise to higher levels.

With the current momentum of Hive, we may see an influx of new users in the coming months. This is one of the seasonal changes that tends to happen on the platform, especially during bull markets. It’s something to be expected and will likely change the dynamics of content creation on the platform as well. Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that onboarding initiatives are becoming more evident as we approach the year 2025. I believe this is a great time to bring new users to the platform, with the hope that we can retain most of them in terms of activity and engagement, even after the season shifts from bull to bear.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that all new users who join will stay for the long haul. However, I’d prefer to remain optimistic about what’s to come. In my opinion, that’s a much better mindset to maintain.

What amazes me about our community is the number of initiatives led by individuals aiming to address areas on the platform that need improvement. One of the most pressing issues is the level of engagement, which often declines significantly during bear markets. Many would argue that the current level of engagement on the platform has decreased compared to what we experienced during the peak of the legacy chain back in 2018. That said, there’s no point in dwelling on the past. Instead, it’s more productive to focus on the present and work towards achieving better outcomes for the platform’s future.

One thing I truly commend is the effort of individuals working to improve engagement. For example, the @TopComment initiative seeks to reward high-quality comments. This project, led by @friendlymoose, also includes other efforts like the POB photography contest. These initiatives foster a sense of connection among users through a certain level of personal interaction, as the Top Comment account curators vet comments before rewarding them.

I recall that a few years ago, there was a similar project called Gentle Bot, which also focused on rewarding comments. I’m not sure whether they had a vetting process for the comments they upvoted, but whatever the case, the project ceased operations in 2018. I’m glad to see the TopComment project stepping up to fill this gap.

I want to see projects and initiatives led by individuals succeed. If they do, it’s a clear sign that the community is responding positively. It also indicates a shift in mindset, as we’re now placing greater focus on efforts that significantly benefit both the platform and the community. This is why I’ve chosen to delegate a portion of my HP, or staked Hive, to the TopComment project. It’s reassuring to know that I’ll be earning delegation rewards from a project that is making a positive impact on the platform.

I hope others will also begin supporting initiatives like this because, ultimately, it is we; both users and supporters, who will reap the benefits of these projects’ success.

Feel free to check on the @topcomment's post regarding the benefits of delegating to the project through this link:

As we continue to support meaningful initiatives and projects, we contribute to the growth and long-term success of the Hive platform. Every small effort from individuals and the community creates a ripple effect that benefits us all. Let’s keep building, engaging, and fostering a positive environment for everyone.

Great initiative, I also try to support social projects. I also think that it’s worth improving some internal processes. When everything thrives from within, people will naturally want to become part of the community. But this depends on regular users. Everyone has a choice: to try and exploit, meaning only take, or to give and receive.

I agree with this and I hope to see these kinds of development this coming year.

There are so many untapped niches here, so many opportunities for different ideas. For example, I’d be interested in reading about open-source software, something like reviews. I’d also enjoy following someone documenting their journey in learning programming or creating something on Hive. There are countless possibilities.

Unfortunately, many people seem to want to spam the platform with all kinds of junk, like posts with AI-generated images and similar text—I see this quite often...

This platform is valuable because it can serve as a database for any kind of written material. That’s one of its potential uses. Maybe I still don’t fully understand how everything works here and just haven’t found the authors writing about the topics I mentioned above.

I also reading content that describe one's journey or progress about something. I don't have specific content that i prefer but i find myself reading more how people is progressing with their stake or holdings.

The beauty of this platform is that people have that freedom to write whatever they want to and sometimes our feed will appear messy.

I just hope that the frontend devs will find a way or develop tools for users like us that will allow us to skim through the content and allow us to find the ones that we prefer to read or curate.

@topcomment thanks 🙏

Well, the feed can be adjusted relatively easily by adding or removing subscriptions manually. I try to improve it for myself every day.

Thanks for mentioning my project! I really hope it will increase engagement on Hive.
I didn't know about the Gentle Bot project before. It ended before I was registered. I'll look into it.

I didn't want Topcomment to be a bot because of the possible abuse. I have to see how long I can manage to run it manually by myself. And when it grows bigger I'll have to seek for some help.

For now I have to see how it develops.
Post like this help making people aware of these initiatives.

It's a pleasure to give shout out to projects like yours. I also hope that more should support regardless of the size of HP. 10-20 hp delegation to top comment by hundreds of people will result to something substantial.

Although, Gentlebot was advertised as a bot. I feel like there are people curating behind it. Back then, bots are like "innovation" in the space of blockchain and that's probably one of the reasons it was advertised that way.

Nowadays, manual curation is a good thing, so what your doing is a much better approach 👍

You’re 100% right about regular people and small delegations. I’m also in the process of thinking about how to launch something like a social curator. Small delegations, without whale-level ones, are a great marker of the community's quality. Large delegations from whales come with certain obligations, which somewhat reduce the freedom of action. But for now, I don’t fully understand some mechanisms, though I’m much better informed than I was a month ago.
