Asians / Aseans … When we speak of the future, there’s always the word investment pops out in conversations and discussions.

For Chinese community (of any country), investment is always very important the moment a child is born. And half of the time, close blooded relatives who are very closely knitted will always want to prepare something for the next generation: especially parents.

Usually that involves with: Precious Metals / Money

But with current technology of the future: What about an asset supported by a blockchain?

I have 3 munchkins (not of my own) who I loved dearly; they are part of my family bloodline and I wished I could have spent more time with them and for them. And just like my uncle (who didn’t have kids) and left a wedding gift for me and my brother, I would hope to leave something behind too for my 3 munchkins.

Maybe, one day, when STEEM moons and SMT is a success, this will be my only asset strictly build on the blockchain for them to enjoy and hold onto.

- First look:

After @aggroed’s speech at #steemfest about spliterlands and during the queuing for food I was blessed with 2 cards that has a starter pack to give new players a head start.

The site itself looks very colourful; but even with FAQ , those are just basic questions, and you have to go to @steemmonsters profile page to learn more.

If the Android / iOS version / Windows versions come out in the future, for more attraction I think like any other games, the storyline and even FAQ needs to be animated.

At this point I am totally fine with reading though I know my attention span seems to be lower than before; but for kids who are so used to UI UX while they grow up, their attention span is so much shorter

- Second look: Signing up a new account

It is proven correct that signing up an account bypassing Steemit is relatively easy; however the moment you want to use STEEM as purchases for upgrades for your collection, then you will need to know how to access to the steemitwallet.

The process to activate the Steemit wallet is still a bit complicated because you actually do have to login into the Steemit wallet site after you retrieve your URL access private keys via email for the first time with your master / posting key at least once and tick the agreements , otherwise you will not be able to use your Active key at all to buy stuffs with STEEM.

(It either doesn't work or says the account does not exist via steemconnect)

This kind of a bummer unless you have a web browser plugin with keychain; but what if your recipient is using a public PC? That would be a no go for sure.

Much public PC at cyber cafes do not allow plugins without their authorisation; besides, that’s a serious breach of security if you use your masterkey to access the game and totally forgotten about it to logout and clear the cache!!

(I know non-techy people will tend to fall into that trap)

- Third look: Ease of explanation reading the card

The how to play page can only be accessed via FAQ page or main page; and if a person who are not very patient and want to go straight to the game / refer quickly to refresh memory, it isn’t a one click access; however, it is still doable if you remember to click on the top left just to have the overview access to it.

Therefore there will always be inpatient n00bs (like me) who could have accidentally skipped the whole walk-through process and get slaughtered before going back to read again. Haha.

(Maybe the mobile versions have a “forced learn” guide out before you can play the game)

- Fourth look: Battles

Battling requires strategy; and with Starter packs unlocked (but you don’t own it) will limit your ability to level up your cards. Users who knows nuts about this game will pretty much having trial and error and learn from plenty of mistakes; and newbie must remember to look for help from help communities available in the screen.

Overall experience: Worth the time?

They look the same, but their values are different?

Right now I totally have no idea how the value of the cards being determined; whether they are determined by sellers in the Spliterland marketplace or it has a fixed value. So if a person truly wants to treat it as an investment, the person will need to both invest on time and money depending they want it accelerating or slow-and-steady way. It could be fun for parents to start playing with their kids together but will not let them own it until much older as a reward / inheritance; depending on how long this game and blockchain will survive.

Of course, I would love to see it succeed since I am planning this as investment to give my munchkins as wedding gifts in the future haha. That’s why this account existed anyways; besides, I can always make strong enough cards to give out as wedding gifts to others too.

(Man! What a way to shill Spliterlands to outsiders!)

Now I wait for @kaerpediem to test the game herself; otherwise I will need more gift cards from @aggroed to market for him in Malaysia.
