Neoxian City Photo Challenge - Halloween in Mexico

This week @neoxian-city is giving us the topic of Halloween for its weekly photo challenge. And sure, why not? This time of the year is a particularly photogenic one, with people dressed up in costumes, houses and shops decorated with funny-scary stuff, and an element of surprise lurking around every corner, offering a whole lot of unexpected to capture.

Here in Mexico, the colorful and spectacular Day of the Dead, on the first two days of November, overshadows what is generally seen as a gringo holiday on the last day of October. However, the kids love it! And dressing up is a popular pastime anyway. Plus, Mexicans don't make a big deal about dividing lines, and so Halloween is happily accepted as a precursor to the more important Day of the Dead.

As a result you can see pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns everywhere, albeit mostly made of plastic. And tonight in Coyoacan the streets and center square are guaranteed to be jam-packed with people, wearing the craziest, but also most creative costumes. However, the party will have to take place without me, as I don't feel comfortable immersing myself in tight crowds these days. So even for the photo contest you'll have to contend with this picture of a plastic pumpkin.
