STINK BUG INVASION / The Horror

(Edited)

The Brown marmorated stink bug, a native to China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and Taiwan has invaded my house and parts the USA in a big way....First documented sightings were in Allentown, Pennsylvania, 1998.

Never had any here until about 3 or 4 years ago. Now when the weather gets cold they find their way into houses to keep warm and mate. I have an old house and despite having new windows and doors they find ways of getting inside.

I catch them in plastic containers and was releasing them outside. But after reading about the invasion in the Midwest and Northeast USA now kill them with hot water.

Here's a big one I took out of the container to photograph.

When distressed, like being put into boiling water the let off a sweet unpleasant sickening smell.

These critters are destructive to farm crops, like soybeans, also will feast on an assortment of tree leaves.

These little monsters have no predators with nothing to stop them from multiplying and spreading.

My cats are use to them and just let them be. No longer curious. They may have tasted their fowl odor when first encountered.
