A Simple shift dress for @vivinity

Hello Needle workers🥰🥰🥰🥰

Season greetings!!! It is good to be here again. As a fashion designer , this festive season is demanding, but its fun seeing that my clients get the best of what they ordered.

Today, I will be sharing the process of how i made a simple shift dress with a bell sleeve for @vivinity. She happens to be one of my church members. She joined Hive on the 15th of December 2024.

She wanted a simple outfit to wear to a ladies' hangout. I knew a shift dress would be nice . So i suggested it to her, and she was satisfied with the option i gave her. I also advised her to pair the dress with nice accessories in order to elevate the dress.

She gave me her fabrics yesterday in church, a beautiful flower crepe fabric. The length of the material is 60 inches, and the width is 54 inches.

I started off by cutting the front and back bodies together with her measurement.

Below is her measurement

Shoulder =15 inches
Burst circumference = 36 inches
Waist circumference= 28 inches
Half length = 16 inches
Hip line= 24 inches
Hip circumference =42 inches
Full lenght= 37 inches
Sleeve length = 25 inches

I marked out all her vertical measurements

Shoulder line
Shoulder to chestline
Shoulser to burst point
Shoulder to half length
Shoulder to hip
Shoulder to full-length with folding allowance

I then proceeded to mark her horizontal measurements

On the shoulder line, I marked half of her shoulder measurement, which is 7.5 inches, and added half an inch to join the shoulder to the sleeve.

from the 7.5 inches on the shoulder, I measured 1 inches downwards for her shoulder slope.
I measured 7.5 inches downwards for her chestline and measured half of her burst circumference on it.

I measured a quarter of her burst circumference on the burst point line with an extra two inches for ease and sowing allowance.
I measured the quarter of her waist circumference on the half length line with an extra two inches for ease and sowing allowance.

I measured a quarter of her hip circumference on the hipline with an extra two inches for ease and a sowing allowance.

I measured what i have on the hip line and marked it on the full length as well.

The front bodies have a slit , so i cut out a facing for both the front and back bodies.

I also cut out the sleeve. I measured 25 inches with one inch folding allowance.

At the top of the sleeve, i came down by 4 inches as her cap height. I measured the armhole measurement 8.5 inches with 2 inches allowance.

I was completely done with the cutting.

Sewing process

Firstly, i place the facing piece on the front and back bodies and sew with quarter inch . I used hemming gum while sewing so that it would lay very flat.

I proceeded to join the shoulder with half an inch. I went further to join the side of the bodies with 1 inch.
I folded the down part with one inch, and ladtly i attached the sleeve.

After i was done, i wished the sleeve was longer, so i used the left over piece of fabric to pleat on the sleeve in order to increase the length, and finally, i am done.

I am going to be delivering the dress to @vivinity next tomorrow.

Thank you all for journeying with me🤗🤗🤗🤗
