Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd

Today, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite Pink Floyd's song.

For those who didn't familiar with this band, Pink Floyd were an English rock band formed in London in 1965. And also gaining popularity in Psychedelic scene. Pink Floyd was known for their extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows.

Released on their eleventh album, The Wall (1979), Comfortably Numb's lyrics was written by bassist Roger Waters, with the chorus progression and guitar solos were written by guitarist David Gilmour. This song is one of the Pink Floyd's famous song, renowned for it's two guitar solos. In 2005, it became the last song ever performed by Waters, Gilmour, keyboardist Richard Wright, and drummer Nick Mason together.

This song's verses are composed in the key of B minor, while the chorus is in that key's relative major, D major. The song, together with "Mother", is one of two tracks on The Wall which are free-standing and do not fade into or out of an adjacent track. It is also the longest song on the album at 6:21, followed by "Mother", which is 5:32.

This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd's song. It has this particular chilling vibe and intrigues me to question everything in my life. The tones, progressions, and guitar solos are also calming me. The extraordinary David Gilmour Managed to implement a crunchy distorted guitar soundings into a smooth and calm tones progression. That took a serious skills and feeling right there.

Roger Waters, another big name of this band is also did a really great job writing lyrics for this piece. He can be poetic and simple at the same time. And it feels like the lyric and the music composition are really sit as one solid substance. And in my opinion, that what make a song perfect and eligible to be called a masterpiece.

It tells us about distance between the band and the audience. Pictured in the story of this song tells us. An anesthetized performer performing in a gig. In an interview released in the 80s, Waters stated that this story is actually happened. In order to allow him to perform in Philadelphia, the doctor gave him a sedative for a severe stomach ache, which had probably caused by nerves. On the stage, his hands were numb and his vision blurred.
