12 Days of Christmas; Day 3, Scottsdale’s 2022 $2 St. Vincent and Grenadine Warship.

One of my #silvergoldstacker friends @thebigghigg was on the same wavelength I was on and posted his recent Christmas wish list coin, The 2023 edition of the Antigua & Barbuda’s, Rum Runner . So I will be gracious to swap another coin it it’s place as to not to take away any of his thunderous broad side.

Was there ever a silver coin you’ve always wanted but never really shared that to any soul? Well here’s your chance, even if you are not participating in the Secret Santa gift exchange part. The Silver coin.

The 2022 St Vincent & Grenadine is another beautiful EC8 Series coin of the eight Eastern Caribbean Islands. This is almost a tale of two coins when compared to the Antigua & Barbuda as far as selection of themes for the reverse.

A beauty isn’t it. I bet even @silverd510 loves this.
The classic ¾ starboard bow view of a warship in full sail with the characteristics that of a ‘Ship of the Line’, a class of ship typically the state of the art, crew of 900+, three decks with almost 100 guns.

Was there a ship of such caliber a part of the history of these Islands? Despite my research efforts, it is not. At least not documented to my knowledge of a nameless and I surmise fictional ship. That can explain why this ship appeared only in the 2022 coin changing the reverse annually.

This Island republic is no fiction of course and looking into our favorite Wiki Reader’s Digest skinny we find the French first settling upon the Islands and built a colony town of Barrouallie on St. Vincent in 1719, against the sentiments of the indigenous Kalinago, before the British kicked out the French in 1763.

The British were no better to the indigenous Garifuna leading to the first Carib war. The French recaptured the Islands in 1783 before the British regained control in 1783. (Still, no mention of a ship of the line}. Another Carib war ensued resulting in 5,000 Garifuna deported to an island off Honduras.

After attempts to unify the eight Eastern Caribbean Islands, St. Vincent & the Grenadines were granted full independence on October 27th 1979 and selecting to remain within the Commonwealth of Nations and retaining the Monarchy.

For now, the ship really has no bearing in the history of these islands as I know, but I would love to find this coin in my fish net stocking on Christmas day. 🎅
