Ads are now an opt-in feature of PeakD.
Make sure to turn them on and do your bit for the community.
It turns out that what you can do for hive is very easy. Just go to your settings in Peakd. Top right hand corner of the page.
Third row from the bottom. "Peakd Settings."
Scroll down the page until you hit,
It's in the section under "What content you see."
Click "Enable ads" and switch it to on.
Congratulations. You are now helping the Hive community.
Also, If you are using Brave browser check to see if AD shields are down for the site as they will also block you from seeing the ads.
Now when I say that you will see ads it's a few simple banners along the page that you will almost not even notice.
Can you spot the ad here. Just about probably.
But why would I want ads on peakd???
A fair question as the web3 community is usually anti ads and interference as we know form requesting this feature for the past 7 years. But the simple answer is that ads create revenue.
Clean, washed revenue that can be used to buy hive from the markets. For the full details you can read the post from the peakd team here looking for feedback,
Testing Ads on PeakD.com... for non-users
But for those too lazy to click the link i have copied their reasoning.
SOME REASONS
- HIVE token buy pressure that could result could help Hive a lot.
- If this led to rewarding people for bringing eyeballs/visitors to their content that benefits all of Hive... specially if it led to less dependence and stress on reward pool funding.
- Hive has hundreds of thousands of posts and search engines push people to them on daily basis to no benefit of Hive
- Less impactful but this could lead to a reason to get an account. (A non ad experience if you get an account)
Personally i don't think that non users will generate that many views but we have thousands of users here daily that could really help those views if we opt in to seeing ads. It's a feature that i have begged for over the years alongside a lot of other voices which can be seen in the feedback section under the post.
The original team brought in ads back when steem was selling of huge amounts of the ninja mine every month to stay afloat and it was a great success. LEO tried ads and had made an impact but the project is under revision at the moment. We are not selling of huge amounts to stay afloat but the price has been leaking for a few years due to high amounts of hive being sold and not much being bought. this needs to change and hopefully these ads are the first change of mindset that we need to see from our devs in a very positive move. I said as much to them in my own response.
I'm very happy to see this feature implemented on peakd and have turned on ads for my account straight away. Hopefully others do the same and we can see what revenue can be generated from the experiment. I'm hoping to see a post in a few weeks with results and to keep the community informed and involved in the process.
I know that it won't be huge to start with but the ads are non-intrusive and all users should turn them on to help the community. It would even be good for new account sign-ups to have to opt out rather than opt in as standard to help increase the views.
Small amounts add up very fast and if we can increase our pageviews in the next bull run those numbers could go up.
We all know from experience that the best form of advertising in crypto is price and if we can get more front ends earning revenue and buying hive from the markets it could create a positive effect on the price which in turn will bring in more users and encourage all of us to produce more front facing content.
If the ads did buy enough hive it would also be nice down the line to reward the content creators who are bringing in the most views and further incentivize quality content to keep increasing those numbers.
Even if the revenue is low to start i hope that the team keep going with the experiment for the foreseeable future until we can see if the community as a whole can work towards building out a library of SEO posts that will keep generating more and more revenue over time.
I'm 100% behind this proposal and have been asking for it with years. So happy to see the team taking a chance with ads and if it's successful we might see even more front ends doing the same and get more buy pressure on the hive markets. In the end it will benefit us all and give us more reason to buy hive ourselves if we know that there is a mechanism there to stop the constant sell pressure that we have seen over the past few years.
More active users and a higher price will totally change the view of our eco-system and encourage other devs to build their projects here if they can see that their investment will go up over time as well as the brilliant tech that is there for them to work with.
This is all in trial stage and just released today but if we wan't it to be successful and see the team build on this promise as well as encourage other teams to do the same then we should all opt into ads and see what results can be formed over the next few months.
I for one would be very interested in seeing the monthly revenue for a top hive site like this and if we can increase it over time. Even if it just generates a few hundred a month in revenue that is a positive for me as it's putting buy pressure on the token that wasn't there before. If other hive apps can follow it could increase to a few thousand a month and have a meaningful impact on the price over time.
It really wouldn't take much money every month to push the price up as users would then fomo into staking more hive as the price increases. Myself included if i saw this start to happen and know what would follow next.

We should all be in for this. It will help us all if it starts earning revenue.
Thanks for the heads-up! I haven't seen the news until I saw your post.
Yep, I believe opt-in ads are an important addition to Hive front ends and I'm glad PeakD added them. I turned them on to see how they work, if there are any issues, etc. If everything seems ok, I probably will leave them on.
If peakd can prove that it's worthwhile then others will follow.
We might still see monetized communities someday and dozens of sites buying hive from the market. That's where I would love it to go.
Then price goes up and users flow in.
I'm curious what kind of revenue will be added from ads during these tests.
I don't mind it, peaks team always does good jobs for hive community

Just switched it on.
Hopefully we see some good results over the first couple of months and it gets other teams doing the same. Ad revenue could really help the price of hive and our visibility if a lot of front ends were doing it.
This is a really nice addition and I hope all Hive front ends do the same because getting rewards from outside to burn HIVE would be a nice addition and support to the value of HIVE
Thank you for this information because I had not noticed this option on Peakd

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 26/46) Liquid rewards.
They haven't really pushed it to the general community as i think there is still a resistance to advertising but if it is going to be successful we need lots of views and clicks which won't be enough from outside views.
Thanks for updating us friend, it I'dgood to look for ways to increase hive's visibility. Let's just hope it works out as expected.
The more people that switch on ads, the better chance we have of seeing good results.
It's all about pageviews and clicks. But a good community effort could help boost the numbers.
Interesting.
I'm not a fan of ads to be honest, but for the sake of this experiment by Peakd I'll give it a go. I've changed the settings and turned of the Brave Adblock for this site... don't see any adds yet but perhaps it takes awhile to update or something.
I always assumed ad revenue only paid out on ad 'clicks' and as I don't click on ads, then I'm not sure how much money it will actually bring in. Fair play to the Peakd team for trying something different, and even they don't know if this will work. No harm in trying anyway!
If in a few months it doesn't seem to be working, then it can be discontinued (or I'll turn the ads off again lol)
That's a good attitude to have. You might not like the idea but at least you're open to trying for the good of the community. We won't know if it's worth doing until they try for a few months and see what revenue can be made.
As far as i know you get paid for so many thousand views but a higher rate for actual clicks. I'm no expert but i've read bits and pieces in the past.
I'm glad they are trying and hope it works out well for all of us.
This is interesting, normally not a fan of adds but I can see this is for the greater good. I'll be turning them on pronto. Thanks for the post to highlight this.
Thanks for doing your bit.
We would all prefer no ads but if it can help us all out then it's worth doing. We all own hive so if it can help the price then we should all do our bit.
