Responsibility Deflection

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about finding a problem, but not letting others deflect it.

Responsibility Deflection

We all have things that we need in terms of the workplace, what is annoying though is when it's a battle to get it!

IMG_3146.jpg

The other day I needed something for one of my customers. They wanted some information from me that I didn't have. Little did I know how freaking DIFFICULT it was going to be to get that information hahaha.

I know that we are in a time of existence where there is a lot going on. We are running all over the place, doing all kinds of stuff. We barely have time to breathe most days. One of the things that I've been making sure to do, when possible, is to STOP and take a breath and get my head on straight. It seems that sometimes people may not always have that same idea!

I'm not one to shy away from a challenge, and that can be a good thing or a bad thing in all honesty. Sometimes it comes to bite me in the ass, but a lot of times it really helps me and those around me. I will go to the mat with some things, because if I find it's important and there is a gap, I will make sure that damn gap is CLOSED. That gap has risen in an area and I am doing my damndest to close that shit!

I get pretty annoyed when I know the right people to talk to for something, but they feel they want to deflect or pass the buck on something. I had to reach out to some colleagues who this is quite frankly their responsibility and I knew it was, but they are too busy or don't feel that it's important for them to help get to the answer. That really annoys the hell out of me on many levels..

I approached these folks and provided them the scenario we were trying to solve and it was deflection, deflection and deflection from them. That was really getting on my nerves hahaha especially because it's not a silly thing that I am looking for, it's actually pretty important. We have a gap in documentation that NEEDS to be closed, but I am being brushed off as if it's not an issue.

I think one of the many reasons that these situations tend to come up is that people see an issue, do one follow up on it and then they are done. I hate that!

I think I got this type of mentality from my dad. I worked with my dad for many years doing electrical work, his profession, and we were always fixing issues. If we saw something in a switch or an outlet that we were changing the light for or something, we'd say fuck it, we can't leave that behind and we fix it. It wasn't what we were there for, but we can't leave an issue behind that we know about. Granted, there are a lot of other issues that may contribute to that one thing, but it was something my dad is really good at: finding a problem and fixing it, along with associated things that are alongside it.

I found the problem in what this customer was asking for, couldn't solve it myself and now I am chasing it down with my colleagues. They think they can get away from me, but I'm a fucking bloodhound on the trail LOL I know that some other people I work with just toss it over the proverbial fence. I can't do that and need to see it through because it will impact me at some point down the line, and I don't like when things I can positively influence, will impact me negatively.

One way or the other, this issue will get solved!

I totally get where you're coming from; it's why I enjoy being able to work as independently as possible! 😅 I don't like being "at the mercy of others," so to speak, because I lose an element of control.

Recognizing and accepting that I can't control other people has been a huge issue that I still struggle with today. Nowadays I'm having a more "go-with-the-flow" approach to things: I do what is within my control, and let others do them. I realize it isn't easy, I'm not the type of person to take no for an answer 😔 But again, if I can't control other people...

Anyway I dunno how vital it is to get this solved, but I obviously hope everything works out for the better. Good to hear from you 🙏

Thanks yeah it is important that we make sure others do their stuff but we go with the flow as much as we can! I do struggle as well with that, but I've gotten better at it. I’m glad you have as well!

Definitely! Even when it's important stuffs that they have to do, they'll act busy and try to pass it on to solve the issue, or they'll just glance it on a surface level and forget about it. The latter annoys me the most, and sometimes it just boils down to following up with them constantly until they get it done.

Yeah absolutely it's super frustrating lol. If it's something I owe them though they are all over me to get it done LOL
