Pokot tribe - Kenya
In august 2023 I visited Pokot tribe, in Baringo region, Kenya, near Maralal city.
People has been very hospitable and nice, despite their reputation is not so good. People say they are aggressive: they have killed people of other tribes, and when police come to talk with them, they killed policemen in an ambush.
They are very skinny, and their main source of livelihood is hunting, herding and agriculture.
(a technical note: I needed to underexposure image to avoid to burn the white of the goat)
This village and community are very small, as you can see, but there are many small villages all around.
To hunt they use spears and bows.
The main warriors wear a wonderful feather headdress as status symbol in the community. Only elder man can wear this kind of ornaments.
They welcomed us with a typical dance, where they sing and jump!

Women wear elaborated necklaces and bracelets made of colorful and bead and shells, symbols of their social status (marriage, how many children they have, age) and they wear them all the time.

Community is very important here, this village is like a great family!
Children everywhere... Someone scared by us, they don't usually see Western white people!
Finally, the chief of the village (75 years old), in an apotheosis of ornaments and elegance!

A unique tribe. Their frame should be from the kind of herbs they consume, perhaps to keep fat at bay, but definitely not from hunger or underfeeding.
Their cultural heritage is very rich.

The Pokot tribe in Kenya is an interesting tribe. Their lifestyle is intriguing. Even though I might say they look undernourished in the pictures and how they kill other tribes and policemen is not good. I'm sure you enjoyed your stay there with the tribe. The people here are very hard working and still living the same simple life. There are many people here who don't even have a mobile phone and they wake up in the morning to work and go to bed early at night. Life is good too.

These people have a cultural heritage that is centred around farming, family and communal living. They're simple but yet very rich.

Their lifestyle are so simple. They lead a simple but peaceful life. Wondered to see they are using spares for the hunt.
