Got the Blues - Three Tune Tuesday
Hail to the Hive!
I haven’t posted anything for a week, which is unlike me, cos I just feel a bit flat and down really. Uninspired and feeling blue. But luckily thanks to @ablaze and this Three Tune Tuesday , I got to listening to some of my fave tunes and it jarred me into action. And when I hit that rich vein of blues music as I went down my tune rabbit hole I got the inspiration I needed.
I love the Blues!
It really is my favourite love when it comes to music and if, like at the moment, I’m feeling pretty down it somehow has the opposite affect and rather than making me blue I find it kinda lifts me. Seeps into my soul an gives me that wry smile an old friend would give you that fully understands why you be feeling the way you be feeling, reassures you, puts an arm around your shoulder, pours you a drink ( whisky of course ), winks and knocks it back ready to pour another.
Now I know this is three tune Tuesday but my word I could have reeled off thirty tunes today without blinking. But here’s just a snapshot, a taste, a wee sniff of what I’m feeling today.
First up, got to be my all time fave. Mr Howling Wolf himself.
Now when you listen to Blues music you need to understand. Without the Blues you would have had no rock n roll. No Hard Rock, no metal no pop no nothing. The Blues is the very foundation of all that came after and in my mind, as much as I love some other later genres, none did it better, with more heart and soul, than the original blues artists.
Next up, Big Mama Thornton.
And you know that despite the subject matter, which often attests to losing loved ones or just about everything at some point or another, it somehow seems to impart some strength into me. Washes thise bleak feelings away and gives me perspective again.
Now if you’re not a blues fan the chances are these tunes, and these artists, may be new to you so I would really like to near comments from anyone to hear their reactions. Who knows maybe it will send you down a blues rabbit hole and have you coming out tapping your toes and humming for the rest of the day.
Let me know in the comments below ⬇️
It do happen sometimes when the feeling of not making post wont be there and finally you picked on of my favourite song which i love listening to anytime i want to play my keyboard, spoonful sang by a great artist himself, a song you will wish to listen to often
Its a great tune 😃
Seriously and i always love it
But luckily thanks to @ablaze and this Three Tune Thursday ...ok, spit it out...which is it... Tuesday or Thursday?? {drums fingers impatiently}...{drums fingers even more impatiently}
I love Howling Wolf, Mama Thornton not as much .... and I have never heard Junior Wells ... sounds like a mix of 60's crooners with a bit of Jimi Hendrix riffs.
Methinks, u have inspired me try my hand at three tune tuesday and I shall follow the Blues theme with a few of my favorite artists
Haha eagle eye, well spotted. I will correct that immediately. Shows the state of my mushy mind at the moment though to be fair 😃
I was going to edit my comment because my brain was not working and I could not think of the artist riff.... so I said jimi Hendrix... when the muso I was thinking about was Stevie Ray Vaughan (Jimi sound alike ..... sort of)
Anhh Stevie Ray. My fave Stevie Ray is Texas Flood. It’s pretty awesome
I was a young muso snob ... and always discounted him as a JIMI wannabe .... but he was awesome. Many years ago I sought out and imported his two copies of his Texas Flood album (vinyl) in early 2000's for my collection. One I played into a coma and the other is still in mint condition ( I a vinyl nut )
Vinyl out sells cds now. It always did have mour soul.
yup, I saw that. Is pricey though.... but still worth it .
Looking forward to your blues tunes choices @themagus

Love dem Blues.
It's just got so much raw emotion and soul.
Nice choice 👍🏻
Thanks @nickydee it certainly does. And the deeper you delve into blues archives the more gems you find
Yeah. Crossroads was one of My favorite films when I was a lass. I bought the 3 disc set of the soundtrack :)
But I don't know enough Blues. Now inspiration to head back into that genre.
Nice share
Ry cooder and steve vai if memory serves were the guitarists battling in that movie
Yeah! Ry Cooder. God. Totally forgot about him!
He did the theme as well for the movie. Great stuff!
Now you make me remember the soundtrack he did for Paris Texas too.
Another classic soundtrack!
You. You know your stuff, huh?
And yeah. Steve Vai lead in the big battle at the end :)
But the disc set was mostly all the old original recordings of the original artists, BTW
Robert Johnson etc
Like the original recordings done on grammaphone or whatever
@wwwiebe would probably know that better
Very special and unique sound. Digital is great but the energy and rawness of the old stuff you can't really emulate these days
Very true theres almost an atmosphere that is impossible to recreate. Man I love the blues
"I got the blues, baby... got those ol' Istanbul blues" :D
Busy learning Engage. Sorry for the late reply but I suck at admin. You'll get used to it.
Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the table for #ttt today!
Haha no worries. Working on it now. I like the challenge now of trying to delve into the depths of my library for something that hopefully stimulates a response.
Oh goody!
I can't wait :D
Its posted. Let me know what you think to this weeks mix
Whoop whoop!
On it now. Thanks for letting me know :D
Yeah, blues on the old records - the really old ones - is absolutely raw and beautiful. When Bessie Smith sings the blues with only two instruments barely backing her up, when the surface noise of the disc is as prevalent as her voice, you know she really means what she's singing.
Yep. Must agree.
That old Robert Johnson recording of Crossroads still gives me goosebumps.
Happy #ttt , guys. Can't wait to hear what you have in store this week :D

The harmonica in Big Mama Thorton tho! And the lead guitar. Geesh...
And man can she sing. 👀
What a great version! Saving this.
My pleasure. 😄. Great when people get turned onto some old great stuff
I got the blues, baby 😆
I'll look out for you next week. Bring it! What else you got
upin your sleeve?Just today I was talking about the Blues genre on Hive. I mentioned Howlin Wolf too, Smokestack Lightnin' by him is my absolute favorite. Have you heard this one?
Yup thats an awesome tune! I nearly picked that for my 3 too
I discovered this song in the new Reacher series, and I'm glad I did. A gem of a song, and a badass artist too.
I've noticed a lot of old blues tracks are creeping into soundtracks these days. Theynare so damned cool is why lol
Yess sirrr, I love that people are still appreciating such classic tracks. These songs are evergreen.
The Blues! Now I could listen to this all day long. I am the farthest thing from a musician, but I'm teaching myself the harmonica just so I can play the blues, just like in Rock Me Baby.
friend of mine in the UK is a blues harmonica player and singer. Rollo Markee. I think he may have a few things on youtube
Oh yeah, Youtube has a plethora of tutorials. It's a really great resource.
Its a great instrument but your neighbors will want to kill you lol

Sorry to hear you were in a bit of a rut man, it happens to the best of us, hopefully you are feeling better now and delighted that #ttt helped to give you an outlet to open up and share your thoughts and you tunes.
I love this man... and I have to confess I do not know the blues well, and if these tunes are anything to go by, then I have been missing out, as these are quality!
I didn't actually realise that, thanks for the history lesson.
Gonna drop three more blues tunes for ya:
