Big Things on the Horizon!

IMG_20210618_213027.jpg

Wow, it's hard to believe that November is almost over. It feels like just the other day we were basking in the warm summer sun and now by this time next week Thanksgiving will be over and done. This will be my third crypto cycle and my perspective on this one is totally different.

In late 2017 I was very new to crypto, at $17,700 I was technically buying Bitcoin around the top. Crazy things were happening all over the place, but I really didn't understand what those things were or what they meant. I know there have been plenty of editorials discussing the fact that this bull run will be nothing like the one in 2017, but for me it feels really similar, although this time I am on a different side of it.

Instead of being on the outside looking in, I feel like I am smack dab in the middle of it, and I am loving it. The last bull run kind of passed over me. Yes, I took a few gains and was able to make some major life moves, but I didn't quite realize what was happening while I was in it. It's amazing how experience can change your perspective.

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.

You'd have to be living under a rock to not notice the moves that BTC has been making this past week. It's been playing that delicate dance of "will it or won't it" with the $100,000 mark. Kind of like that couple that you "ship" on your favorite TV show.

I remember getting all wrapped up in the hype last cycle about $100K, but we never saw it. I think that was a big part of my problem last time, I was waiting for it so much, that I lost track of everything else around me. We've never been this close before. As of this moment, less than $1000 is standing in the way of that magical milestone mark.

Crazy Innit?

What if it comes and nothing happens? What if life just keeps on moving like it did when it was at $73,000? I think what is more likely to happen, is that it will quickly retrace back under that mark. By then the damage will already be done though right?

Gensler Out

We all knew this was coming, but it seems he is choosing to step down himself rather than being kicked out dragging and screaming. Perhaps he just doesn't want to give Trump the satisfaction, I think we all knew his time was over though. He announced the other day that on January 20th he will be stepping down from the SEC.

Let the good times roll!

CoinGecko Candies

I'm curious if anyone else has been a religious collector of "candies" in CoinGecko over the years? I remember at one point there was some kind of airdrop where if you had enough candies you could claim a token on some chain. I don't really remember the details and I was hoping someone here would point me in the right direction.

I remember I claimed the token, but I don't remember what it was called or what wallet it was in. I'm sure it is totally worthless now, but I just wanted to make sure my ducks were in a row before we enter alt season.

This might be a good time for you to take a quick inventory of all those little coins you have floating around here and there. You never know when one of them might pop for who knows what reason. Knowing ahead of time what you have and how to swap it into a stable could be the difference between big gains or just another token you hold that went to zero.

Grilling and Smoking Community

This isn't really finance related, but I just wanted to remind everyone about the new community I created here on HIVE dedicated to Grilling and Smoking. Whether you only do it on the weekend or in summers, or year round, there is something really primal about cooking on a grill.

It's a hobby that can turn into a passion very quickly and people can find themselves dedicating their lives to perfecting their techniques. Web 2.0 is very heavy with groups like this boasting hundreds of thousands of members from all across the globe. I wanted to bring something to our little corner of the web. I hope you have the time to dig into it (or even contribute), and share in this great community.

There are already three posts (including mine)!

Any Guesses?

So what do you think? Do we hit $100K by the end of the day or do things just keep bouncing around the high 90's for a while? I think barring some major crash or global event, we are probably going to see it sooner rather than later. Before 2025 is almost a certainty, but before the end of November... I'm not sure that is a bet I would want to take.

BTC looks unstoppable here. 100k is a matter of days. 6 hours ago we were less than $600 from there...

Yeah, it seems to have taken a step back for a second, but I wouldn't be shocked if we hit it soon.

When it does hit 100k, whether tomorrow or next month, life will go on. It will be much the same as before. Given the significance of that number, it sure seems like that could become the new floor.

100k... then on to 200k!

I think you are probably right. There is always going to be another number we are looking for I think. That doesn't change the significance of $100K though.

I got into Bitcoin around the same time I joined Steemit (Hive) … June 2017. I had no idea what I was doing but I was told to buy the dips. Even $10. I can’t remember who gave me that advice but I’m pretty happy I followed. And there were some big dips. I sold some in early 2018 and again in 2021 … I bought some stuff but I think I would should have kept HODLing … I think it’s better to just keep buying very small amounts on each Big Dip and keep stacking sats with all those Free Bitcoin Faucets. It adds up … slowly.

Yeah, I would tend to agree with that. I was using NiceHash to mine for a bit and I remember when it hit $3000 in 2018 or 2019 I think. I sold most of what I bought, I should have just held onto it.

(Edited)

I see stories of people selling 25 Bitcoin when it hit $100 … so I’m kind of glad I wasn’t that early. Could you imagine ? I mean I feel bad about selling .25 Bitcoin

Yeah, that would be horrible. I've never owned a full BTC, but I don't want to go back and look at my past transactions. I am sure I would be kicking myself!

It is crazy, back when I first bought my first BTC in 2014 I never thought we'd be here. I would be surprised if we didn't test 100K today. Suddenly the whole BTC at $200,000 doesn't sound quite as crazy as a few years back.

Never tried the candies. But with Gensler walking away I think we will see some nice gains, he really slowed crypto growth. Smart move on his part to walk away before being fired though!

I've never owned a full BTC, but I wish. I am sure I would have sold it long ago though. I mean even at $60,000 that's life changing money in my part of the country. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next year brings. I hope it's as hot as everything thinks it is going to be!

Its hard to think that BTC was at 17k back in 2017, approx 7 years ago and is 5-6x that price right now.. I guess you had many chances to buy it much lower too which is really cool.

Awesome new community man! I’ve got a grill we are trying to get smoked, it’s brand new and where we live sucks in terms of the miserable old coots complaining about cooking but I can’t burn it on my deck lol gotta do it elsewhere then I’ll be in business!

Bitty is having a hell of a run that’s for sure. Where does it lead though? That’s the big question!

Oh man, that sucks! I don't think I could handle it if I was getting complaints about my grill. These new condos opened up near where we live and when my wife showed them to me my first question was "where would we put the grill?". I hope you figure something out!

The $100K mark is so close, but I’m curious to see if it actually hits or if it'll just keep bouncing around.

I think it might pass it, but it will likely bounce back and forth for a bit once it finally crosses that mark.

Smile when looking back, someone said if you hang onto .5 or .2 BTC it would be well worth it at the end of day, talking long haul 10 year plan. Here we are doing a tango with one hundred, who knows it definitely takes time!

When my life settles down into something more normal will visit your Grilling and Smoking a pastime greatly enjoyed here....

Thanks, I appreciate it! Take your time, I don't plan on going anywhere! It will be interesting to see how long it takes us to crack $100K finally.

I plan on holding my BTC indefinitely. I might sell some, but then I will buy back in when it drops. I plan on using it as collateral more than anything.
