Alphabet Hunt Challenge ~ Letter M

avatar

This is my entry in the Alphabet Hunt Challenge by @barbara-orenya. You can read more about the Alphabet Hunt and how to join in HERE!

Here are my six (or so) photos representing the letter M ...

1. Marshy Point Nature Center
Marshy Point Nature Center is a park in Baltimore County, Maryland. They have a nature center with many interesting exhibits, miles of trails to walk and even a paddle trail. I've never been on the paddle trail but I have visited the nature center and walked many of the trails there. It is a beautiful park with scenic views of both the land and water.

2. Millstone
This large millstone is on display at the Jerusalem Mill Village in Baltimore County, Maryland. Jerusalem Mill Village is a living history museum. The gristmill had millstones as large as 52 inches. I didn't measure this one but it is the largest millstone that I've seen so far!

3. Moss
I photographed this mossy tree that was along the Gunpowder Falls river. It was such a lush layer of moss that I couldn't help but run my hand over it!

4. Marigold
Marigolds strike me as a cheerful kind of flower! They add a delightful pop of color to gardens too. I took this photo at the in-laws house. They have a lovely display of Marigolds every year and I do look forward to seeing them (the marigolds and the in-laws) when I'm there along with some other nice plants in their garden.

5. Mums
I saw these pretty mums while visiting a farm type store near me. Mums is actually short for Chrysanthemums but I've always just called them Mums. I guess I got that from my Mum..lol. My mom loved all kinds of plants and flowers and had quite the "green thumb" with them. I did not inherit that green thumb but I'm improving on keeping most of my plants healthy and living.

6. Mourn / Mourning
This word was a last minute entry. We all have times that we mourn the loss of different things including people and pets that we love dearly. I'm currently mourning the loss of my sweet little Friendly girl. She was more than a pet, she was a member of our family. Friendly kept me company and was almost always by my side. I miss her terribly but it was her time to leave just like one day it will be mine.

Sorry to end on a bit of a sad note but that is a part of life and sometimes we have to say goodbye to loved ones be it people or pets although instead of goodbye I prefer to say I'll see you soon! 💕

That brings us to the end of this edition of #alphabethunt!
Thank you @barbara-orenya for #alphabethunt!!

A beautiful and interesting collection @deerjay ! I had to search for the word millstone, and then I wondered if the name of the village Jerusalem Mill have something to do with all these "mill" words ...🤔
You live in a beautiful and Marvelous nature environment, I have much enjoyed the first photography that shows a most enjoyable and serene place indeed...Maryland is also a M word 😉
I didn't know either the nickname mums for the Chrysanthemums, this is so sweet and I wonder if this is an invention of your mom or if other people do call them like that...if someone english can answer that..😊
And I'm sorry for your loss of this pretty soft cutie ...
today is the special cat day so I wish youcaturday%20joyful%20kitty.png

Thanks so much @barbara-orenya!! The millstones were used in mills to grind grains for flours. I did think about Maryland but couldn't find a photo that I was happy with to represent it. Most places around here refer to the flower as mums. I guess it is easier to shorten the word..lol.
Love your special cat..so cute! 💖

What a lovely post, although it ends so sad, but one day you will see Friendly again 🙂

This Nature Center sounds great and I believe I would love spending some time walking all the trails. The paddle trail must be interesting for bird photography.

You can't compare our Millstones - mine are old, broken and dirty and yours is a nice piece in a museum and looks good 😀

Marshy Point has some very nice trails and I would love to do a paddle trail some day. 😉
I loved your millstones so much! They were in a lovely setting which really showed them off. 💖

Very good M-hunt @deerjay! Those Mums are beautiful, you had me a bit confused at first, never heard Crysanthemums being called that ;)
I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet Friendly but Mourning sadly is something we all have to deal with at various times of our lives.

Thank you very much @lizelle!! I see a lot of mums for sale in the Fall and in so many pretty colors. I guess mums is easier to pronounce..lol. That is what a lot of people here call them. 🤔
It is taking some getting used to not having Friendly here but it will take time. 😥

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet little Friendly girl. I have lost two pets in the past and currently have Yorkies that I love them so dearly. Like you, my furbabies are my family, keep company, and are almost always following me and by my feet wherever I walk around in and our of my home and all they do is stare at me. I do believe that our pets were created just for us to feel and know what unconditional love means. Thanks for sharing your M finds, and most especially for sharing about Friendly.
Take care @deerjay 🥰🌺🤙

Awe..thank you so much @silversaver888! Give those little Yorkies some pets for me! I'm still having some overwhelming feelings about losing Friendly. I feel like there is an empty void in my heart but I know it will take some time. I started to give her "special" food to the other cats and I feel silly that I got emotional doing that. She was always there for me and I know she will be there for me again one day. 💕

congratulations with another successful hunting week. you've got some nice pickups, I like mourning, mills and marshes the most. special thanks for the marshes -- I used to stick to the only word in my vocabulary (that is a swamp) and I always forget about the other synonims, like bogs and marshes. so, thanks for this little reminder! see you next week.
