Men's Mental Health.

This often goes unnoticed because everyone views the male gender from a different perspective and expected to be strong while forgetting the simple fact that we are all humans and we all have emotions. It has often been attributed as a sign of weakness when a man shows any sign of emotions.

This has been engraved into the male perspective too that we don't often seek help or go for constant check ups to know the state of our mind, heart or body. Constant check up is needed and most men that would go for check ups go solely to get their loved ones off their backs after they have been forced to go. Even when they honour these appointments, men hardly disclose the reasons why they came just to make it easier to wrap up the appointment and leave through the door as fast as they can.

A lot of men sees their GP or visit the hospital half as much as women especially during their working age. For health check ups, women also have 4 times as many opportunities to meet with medical professionals. For most men, they wait until symptoms have worsened before seeing a doctor.

A lot of fathers resume from paternity leave and they hardly get asked how they are doing nor do they have people checking up on them. The signs for men showing post-natal depression might not be very obvious as it would be for the women. It can come in various forms like anger, worries and anxiety.

Post-natal depression is often associated with the women but often goes unnoticed for the men. Almost half of males are more comfortable having open conversations about difficult topics. A recent research shows that police receives an emergency call every 3 minutes from a male victim of domestic abuse.

Men are less likely to reveal an abuse as a woman will. Common signs of abuse for men would be changes in their behaviour, attitude, clothing - the way they dress - a major adjustments in it, even at work. You also seem to see them outside more without their partners alongside them.

It has also been revealed that men harbours more suicidal thoughts than the female counterpart. There are also signs to watch out for like cancelling of plans in the last minute, saying they are burned out, saying words like: "Everyone will be better without me" or "I can't cope anymore" or "I don't know how to fix things" or "I am lonely" etc.

This doesn't mean everyone who says these words or acts certain ways are having suicidal thoughts or they are being abused, but it's a call for those around them to look close enough and be observant. There is a need to move closer and genuinely ask, "How are you really doing?"

To Be Continued...

You are right. Men's mental health has always been ignored. No one talks about the breakdown they go through everyday when they feel they can't provide for their loved ones enough. No one talks about how the women in their lives treat them badly if it seems they are not bringing anything to the table, financially. We do need to reach out to every man who is struggling out there.

You absolutely nailed it. A lot of people get hit hard when they can't provide or when things are not going well. There is no support and because they are expected to be strong and this makes men not to seek for help for the fear of being laughed at too. Thank you for this brilliant comment.

genuinely ask

I like that you added genuinely. I have observed that people ask this question to fulfil all righteousness. They don't wait for your answer, they don't even hear it.
As a result, most times we unconsciously reply "I am fine" even when we are not.
We really need to do better.

A lot of familiarity has gone into that question so people ask it light-heartedly without deeply wanting to know the answer. More like to fulfil all righteousness. We need to do better, no doubt. Thank you very much.

Men's Mental Health has been kicked to the curb. Everyone assumes men don't suffer or they don't go through things. We see them as strong yet forgetting they are humans too. This is very insightful and detailed. Well done. Look forward to the second part.

It's a costly assumption. Men have been known to be strong and this makes men get little or no attention which shouldn't be. Thank you very much for your support. It means a lot.

That's right. We assume everything is fine only not to understand that some people are close to breaking point. We need to check on the men around us and offer support where we can.

We can be seated next to a broken person and not know it. Some people are close to breaking point yet they mask it. We need to watch out and offer support where needed.

We all need help. We all need support. No one can make it in this world all alone. We all have our own vulnerable moments.

Being strong doesn't mean we do not need support and this is one big mistake the world is making. Even Robot needs maintenance so what's with men that we shouldn't get support or affection?

Hahaha I love this analogy and that's super smart. Thanks brother.

It's sad that society today thinks of Men as a superhero but they aren't treated as one, the world needs to do better with this. Men also feel, men hurt, we are humans too.

We are humans and we are not made of steel but of flesh and blood too. Thanks for this...

A good angle to this and I like it. They see men as superheroes yet they forget they are also bleeding.

To me, I always feel for the men because in the society we live in actually, we the women have been trained to look at the men as if they are always strong and never lack anything emotionally which is not so. In fact men are the ones that pass through a lot most and in fact needs to deal with a lot of things as necessary. They need to attend to a lot of things and eventually get things done. Sometimes it is not always easy for them because they have a lot of things to attend to. They faces a lot of things emotionally and need to always face deep things within them but nevertheless they are configured never to show their weaknesses or what they are facing outside thereby making them to be dieing secretly inside.

Men also needs to be shown some love

This is brilliant and you put it accurately well. A lot of men are going through a lot of things they are unable to share because they society frowns on man being vulnerable or filled with emotions. There are a lot of people going through things that needs support. We just need to look closely. Thank you very much.

Perfectly said. A lot of men are passing through a lot and I strongly believe it is high time that the society begins to see this and begin to rise up to the defense of men because they actually needs it. They have been left to themselves alone which should not actually be so

Absolutely true. Men have been neglected for far too long and it shouldn't be. We all need support every now and then. Thanks a lot for that.

Yea we all need support and not just casual support but important support because the men needs support. They really need quality support from us and we need to show them because they actually need it. They really need it

I am speechless after reading this and it saddens my heart when I see people who don't appreciate the effort of men in today's society. I pray that all men find peace and happiness no matter what the challenge they are going through.

Amen. Thank you very much. Yes, it is disheartening and we can all do better by genuinely understanding what men are going through and offering support the little way we can; emotional support helps a lot.

I say a big amen to your prayers because every man needs it. After everything men do for their family and their impact on the society, they should be appreciated.

What a great post you bring us today friend, usually the mental health of men goes to the background or unnoticed by what you express, but we also have emotions and feelings that if they continue to accumulate can be a little late to act or attack the root problem, many have a bad time but do not say anything for fear of what they will say, this topic has much fabric to cut friend, thanks for bringing this topic with all of us, because it was necessary to talk about this ♥

Thank you so much, my friend. I am more than happy to bring about this awareness because it's often overlooked. Everyone expect men to be strong without understanding that men also have emotions. A little support here and there goes a long way to encourage men to keep being amazing.

I am completely sure of that my friend, HE will be with us at all times so we should never let that cross our minds or diminish our faith, but increase it even more so that HE can work in our lives ♥

Hahaha it's not only breasts... breasts are good, don't get me wrong and I so much love them hahaha. Emotional support and understanding the plight of men helps and eases up the pressure which has drove so many to suicide.

Regarding men's issues, the world can do better than this. We have blood running in our veins too which is why we must be treated with love. Recently someone called my attention to something, he said men are the ones you see on pain reliever packs while women are on body lotion and others.

A lot of men are struggling mentally and it's time the world pay attention to it.

A lot of men are struggling and most people are ashamed to say anything about it because of how the world has viewed men. We all need help and should be able to cry for help when needed. Thanks a lot, brother.
