An Upcycled Aquarium To Inspire Environmental Awarenesses.

Hello DIY community, I hope we all had a great week. I have been contemplating on my entry for this month's DIY contest for days and finally came up with something simple.

It was fun making this DIY project, and I hope this post educates us not just about the project but about caring for our environment.

When the word environment pops up, a lot of people think just about trees and other plants around us, which is right since they are part of what makes the environment, but that's not all.

Our environment is made up of so many things, and the aquatic life isn't exempted. Speak of the ocean, the sea, rivers, lakes, and every other water body you can think of are part of the environment because they all have a significant contribution to the well-being of our environment.

Just like we have human activities affecting trees and plants, the aquatic world is also struggling with some human activities, and I felt like it would be fair to make something related to the aquatic world just to create more awareness about the struggles of animals in the ocean.

Water pollution is a huge issue for aquatic animals and we are responsible for this problem. Our industries discharge waste into the ocean, and we also go as far as disposing plastics, nets, polythene bags, and others that harm those animals in the aquatic world. All these activities have caused the extinction of different animals, while there are numerous endangered species out there.

Please, the acquatic world is of great importance to humans, and I urge everyone to stop any form of environmental population we are involved in.

For my entry into this month's DIY contest, I made an aquarium from cartons, cardboard and polythene bag.

It's a rectangular-shaped aquarium, so I just cut off the opened side of the carton first.

After removing thecarton cover

After removing the cover, I cut the carton into the size of the aquarium I wanted to create.

The exact size ofcarton I needed for the aquarium

To give the interior of the aquarium an ocean view, I covered the inside with light green cardboard since I couldn't get blue cardboard.

I measured the base of the carton first and cut out a cardboard for the same size as the base.

I applied Evostick glue to the base of the carton and gently placed the cardboard inside.

I measured the length of the carton and finally the width as well.

I cut out two pieces each for the length and width since there are two sides each in the aquarium.

Width

I applied some evostick glue to the uncovered parts of the aquarium and gently placed the cardboard I had already cut out inside the aquarium.

Length

I left the inside of the aquarium to dry properly and moved on to cutting out the plants and animals that would be in the aquarium.

I drew the plants and animals on different colors of cardboard and cut them out.

I made little designs like the eyes and mouth on the animals and left them to dry.

After they had all dried, I applied gum to the bottom of the plant and gently placed them on the bottom side of the aquarium.

I want the plants to be green, so I painted the plants with green paint.

I left them to dry for a few minutes and started putting the animals in as well.

Instead of just placing them on the base of the aquarium, I attached a small rectangular piece of cardboard with folded ends to the animals and gently attached them to the aquarium as well.

12

I repeated the process until all the animals found a space in the aquarium.

I covered the opening of the aquarium with a very transparent polythene bag by applying gum to the edges and gently placing the polythene bag end on them.

The polythene bag gave it a nice touch of water effect and it looks good.

Finally, I placed two tiny blue bulbs in the aquarium, which added more beauty.

Yeah, they do. I wish I could do magic to bring the dishes and other animals to life.
