Beer Tasting: Anarkist NEIPA & Wingman IPA
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
These months are passing like clockwork this year (at least for me), and soon, the year will be over, and the cycle will start all over again. But where will I be then?
Returning to today's reality, I am still quite happy with the day. I spent half a day outside, and now, after a beautiful, sunny, and autumnal day, I'm going to enjoy the first #beerstaurday of November - 384 in a row.
There were two cans in the fridge, one Scottish and one Danish. I'll be happy to taste them and share their secrets with you. It's for fun, of course, but maybe you'll come across some; who knows?
The first one with less alcohol.
BrewDog Wingman - Session IPA
Brewed by Brewdog, Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Grampian, Scotland.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.3% ABV, IBU 50.
It's a Session IPA style beer with standard IPA hoppiness and brewed with American hops. It usually has less alcohol than classic IPA.
What do the Master Brewers say?
The eagle has landed. When you’re looking to let the good times roll, Wingman has your back. A maverick of a Session IPA, this is a smooth ride of mellow tropical fruits, piney notes and a sharp citrus aroma. Refreshing, infinitely drinkable and with a steady boozing altitude of 4.3%, you’ll want to keep Wingman by your side all night long. Prepare ground control. Refreshment incoming.
🍺
The beer is light yellow and clear. The head is solid but disappears quickly. I smell tropical fruits. A sip goes down the throat quickly. I taste the bitterness of the hops, but it is not as pronounced as I expected. I also taste citrus, orange, and lemon aromas in the mouth.
In the aftertaste, all the aromas disappear quickly, including the bitterness of the hops.
The beer is very drinkable and light. It is not as bitter as expected for a beer with 50 IBU. It is very fruity and tropical.
You can order it here in one shop in Ljubljana (€3.40). But you should order the whole package because it's just suitable for a day of drinking :)
Theodor Schiøtz Anarkist New England IPA
Brewed by Theodor Schiotz Brewing Company, Odense, Denmark,
Can, 0.44 l, alcohol 5.4 % ABV, IBU 25.
It's a New England IPA or American IPA beer. It's hoppy, with intense fruit flavors and aromas, but less bitter than traditional IPAs.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Over 100 years after Theodor Schiøtz insulted his last official, his spirit still lives on at the brewery. Like him, we take pride in exceeding expectations. This IPA is brewed with Mosaic, Motueka, and Citra hops, with a shot of rhubarb and elderflower to complement the fruity hop character. We've omitted bittering hops so you don't get the dry bitterness.
🍺
I tasted this beer on tap in Kopenhagen, and it was pretty good. So I bought a can in the shop for home :)
The beer is cloudy orange in color, with a bit of head. It has a malty smell. The sip goes down the throat smoothly. I taste a faint bitterness from the hops and a little less malt sweetness in the mouth. There is a bit of tropical fruitiness in mango, grapefruit, and sweet biscuits.
In the aftertaste, everything disappears quickly except for a slight bitterness that lingers for a while.
This is a tasty and drinkable beer. The bitterness is predominant but not extreme, balanced by the sweetness of the malt. It is not available here.
I drank it on draught in Copenhagen, and I must admit that the sensation was not the same. All the flavors and aromas were more pronounced, i.e., more bitter, sweeter, and fruitier. Yes, probably because I drank it straight from the cask at the source.
And what am I listening to when I'm tasting beers and writing this? Something from my yesterday's #newtunes post. You have to live the blues to perform it well, they say.

By color and appearance the first one looks more appealing to me. The cloudy orange of the second color doesn't look as good. Maybe it's just the lighting though? Cool can designs. I like the Scottish one in that regard as well.
I also found the first one a nuance more drinkable and fresh. And I already know the Brewdog Brewery; I've tasted several of their beers. But the second one was good, too, if a little different. The design of the cans is what attracted me to take them :)
very nice too!
Yes, good beers.
