CCC's Street Art Contest #219 Shok Ahcer & Soy, Montreal

For the CCC's Street Art Contest #219 hosted by @digi-me, I'm featuring a wall created over 20 years ago, in 2001, by Shok, Soy and Ahcer. It's incredible that a 23 year old wall is still intact without any tags, just the passage of time has had its effect by washing out the colours a little.

I've been wanting to take a photo of this wall for some time, but there were often parked cars. But this summer, with the pedestrianisation of rue Mont Royal, I was able to take advantage of the absence of cars.

It's always better when a wall is signed, it's simpler 😀. There's even the year. It was 2001 that Shok, Soy and Ahcer made it with Marsupilami as the main theme. I don't know if you're familiar with this comic strip character created in 1952 by André Franquin for the French-Belgian magazine Spirou. I was a great reader during my childhood

Cela a bercé mon enfance.

Ahcer

The first lettering is done by Ahcer, an artist I don't know at all. It's the only work I know of him, maybe from another generation.

Shok

The second is the work of Shok, a pioneer and writer who got his start in StreetArt in the 1990s with the HYH crew, as shown on the wall. He's still active with more colourful lettering to be seen on his Instagram.

Soy

The last lettering is also by an artist, Soy, and it's the only lettering I know of. As for the characters, I don't know who did them. But all the characters of the Marsupilami with his children and the tiger that wants to eat him are really well done. Very nice mural, it's cool that it's been preserved all these years.

In the alley just next door, I found this little painting screwed into a post with a rather philosophical text underneath. Interesting stuff.

It's true that for StreetArt it's very rare for a wall to last so long, especially as it's so accessible.
Have a great week too

Very cool wall. Love the characters. I don't remember the cartoon but the artwork is iconic - instantly familar.

Yes, it's more of a comic strip known in France and Belgium...
