Green Trees Covered in Mist: Photography |

Mount Salak is one of the leading destinations in North Aceh Regency, Aceh, Indonesia. Although people mention Mount Salak, no one has reached the mountain, only enjoying the cool peak covered in mist. The cool air (different from other areas in Aceh), and the green trees make it a favorite choice for enjoying a weekend getaway.

Early last year, I crossed Mount Salak on my way to Takengon City, Central Aceh. When returning from Takengon on the second day of January 2025, I stopped at a cafe on Mount Salak with an exotic view of the mountains and wilderness.

Since growing as a tourist destination about 10 years ago, along the Mount Salak route, there are many cafes offering various foods and drinks. The main treat is the famously delicious Gayo coffee. One of the coffee companies with an international network, including using Gayo coffee which is famous for using natural fertilizers, without the touch of chemical fertilizers.

The road to the top of Mount Salak takes a winding road with sharp descents and ascents. Drivers must be careful, especially in the rainy season such as December and January because the roads are slippery and prone to accidents. Not to mention the threat of landslides that must be watched out for.

I and a special friend ordered coffee and Acehnese noodles at a cafe. Acehnese noodles are a typical Acehnese culinary that is rich in spices. While waiting for food and drinks, I took pictures of the surrounding nature which was covered in fog at that time.

Well, the presence of fog that often descends in the afternoon until evening, is another beauty on Mount Salak. Beauty and threat, that's what I call it because if thick fog descends, visibility is disturbed and can threaten safety on the trip. Visitors must ensure that the fog lights are on properly.

I took pictures using the iPhone X's ganget camera which actually wasn't performing well anymore. I edited the photos while maintaining the original colors. I only cut out the unimportant parts and edited the image size of the photos that I display here.
