Steamed Sweet Potato With Palm Sugar Cakes

Can you imagine tender sweet potatoes combined with fragrant palm sugar? You have to try this steamed cake!

I have often made steamed cakes from sweet potato ingredients. But I think this cake is simpler than the others. That's because I don't need to work extra hard to shape the steamed cake. I just need to put the dough into a simple cake mold, and the result is like the one in the photo.

It's just..., let me explain to you what really happened. Maybe this all looks like a giant cake that is not beautiful at all. But this happened beyond my expectations. When the steamed cake dough was finished, I just remembered about my steamed cake mold paper that ran out. The cake mold paper should be small. Meanwhile, I only have muffin mold paper. So the giant steamed cake shape is like this, lol.

But, ignore the shape. My cousins ​​who finished this cake said that they wanted this cake again because it was very delicious even though it was only made with sweet potato ingredients.

So, I will share with you Steamed Sweet Potato With Palm Sugar Cakes. The sugar I use is light brown sugar which is in the form of fine grains so it is easy to mix with other ingredients.

Meanwhile, we don't need a mixer at all. We also don't need a balloon whisk. Meanwhile, we only need a fork and a spatula. Let's see the recipe and how to make this steamed cake.




THE INGREDIENTS

WET INGREDIENTS

  • 300 grams of sweet potatoes, steamed and mashed
  • 250 ml of coconut milk
  • 50 grams of vegetable oil
  • 120 grams of palm sugar

DRY INGREDIENTS

  • 250 grams of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla powder
  • 2 tbsp of baking powder



COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare sweet potatoes. Peel and cut into pieces.

Then, wash them and steam them for 15 minutes or until tender.

After the sweet potatoes are steamed, mash them while they are still warm in a large bowl. Mash them using only a fork.

Add palm sugar, vegetable oil, and also coconut milk. Mix them well with just a fork until they are completely combined, and there are no more lumps of mashed sweet potatoes visible.

Mix all dry ingredients in a flour bowl.

Use a sieve. Then, sift all dry ingredients on top of the wet ingredients.

Use a spatula to stir the wet and dry ingredients until they are evenly mixed and no more flour is visible in the mixture.

Prepare the cake mold that will be used to steam the cake. Then, transfer the cake batter to the cake molds.

Steam the cake batter for 15 minutes. Then serve while warm.

This is how the giant steamed cake turned out. In fact, I couldn't finish 1/4 of this cake. lol.

The aroma of palm sugar is very suitable to combine with sweet potato, like the match between pumpkin and cinnamon powder. :)

Many years ago I had a similar dessert, baked by an old man that ran a bakery next door to my “dress shop”. I used to open the shop early, but he’d always be there before me, baking his offerings for the day. He was such a very sweet, sweet man, much like the cakes he made. He used to keep a little cake for me each day and sweet potato was one of his best.
