“Multicentro Empresarial del Este”, an urban complex that has stood the test of time, in Caracas

Partial view of the two towers (Vista parcial de las dos torres)

Good afternoon, dear friends of this community, I very often go to the place that I present to you today, because on the 14th floor of this shopping center there is an office of a relative. I have only recently made the decision to show this mega structure to my hive friends. The photos are all my property and can be used for educational purposes, without prior permission.

image.png
From Av. Miranda you can see, to the left, the two office towers and the vertical parking lot (Desde la Av.

The construction of this complex, inaugurated with the name of "Multicentro Empresarial del Este", with 4 towers, was originally dedicated to mixed use, under the horizontal property regime, but the zoning (construction use) was changed before it was occupied, changing to exclusively commercial use.

image.png
Small restaurant at the entrance to the parking lot, from where you can see the columns of the Multicenter (Pequeño restaurante a la entrada hacia el estacionamiento, desde donde se pueden ver las columnas del Multicentro)

The complex is located between two large avenues with a lot of commercial activity: Libertador and Francisco de Miranda avenues, in the Chacao municipality of Caracas. The complex was designed by the architects Luis Manuel Trompiz and Carlos Saldivia, in 1975, and completed in 1978, with a total of 160,000 square meters of construction on a plot of 14,420 m2.

The 4-building complex has two larger main towers, the Libertador and Miranda towers, each with 16 floors, and a small three-story building, between which stands a 19-story mechanical building with the capacity to park 304 cars; It is worth remembering that the vertical parking lot was not part of the original design. In fact, it was planned to build a gym and a swimming pool there, since in the beginning the apartments in tower A were sold for residential use in horizontal property, while the rest of the building was for offices and commercial premises of various kinds. In fact, each tower has four dedicated basements for owners parking.

Wide corridors and walls lined with marble (Amplios pasillos y paredes forradas con marmolina)

The first to be inaugurated was the Libertador Tower, completed in 1975, which has 3 traffic hubs, and 126 offices spread over its 16 floors. The second tower, called Miranda, was completed two years later in 1977 and has only two traffic hubs and 175 offices on its 16 floors. The small three-story building has a total of 8 offices. The three buildings are linked by a corridor that connects the two bordering avenues of the complex, there are 57 commercial premises of different kinds, the most visited being the restaurants and cafeterias that are located along the aforementioned corridor, in this area it can be can appreciated very ample places for the rest of the visitors.

At the entrance on Libertador Avenue is this somewhat deteriorated work of art (En la entrada por la avenida Libertador se encuentra esta obra de arte un tanto deteriorada)

On the land occupied by the Multicentro there was a private school, whose demolition gave way to the current complex of buildings; however, something was saved from the vortex of concrete, a ceiba tree, which is located on the façade of the complex on Libertador Avenue.

Modern elevators serve the towers of the Multicentro (Modernos ascensores prestan servicio a las torres del Multicentro)

Like many of the constructions of that time, the Multicentro has many green areas, both around it and in the internal corridors. Likewise, you can see some works of art, 5 stained-glass windows, murals and some cubist work, in the internal part of the complex. It is even worth mentioning that there is a spiral staircase that connects the ground floor with the first floor, totally built in concrete, with no other support than the base and the top of it. Likewise, it is incredible that after more than forty years the Italian ceramics throughout the corridor are still in very good condition, despite the volume of people who pass through them daily.

In a corner is this beautiful stained-glass window (En un rincón se encuentra este hermoso vitral)

image.png
Cafe with a stained-glass window in the background (Cafetín con un vitral al fondo)

I had the opportunity to visit that beautiful structure as a companion since my mother was going to have a cosmetic treatment in one of the building's offices, as you indicate, there are many businesses from restaurants to the sale of electrical appliances, it is spacious and super quiet.

Excelente trabajo!

"Excellent work! This is just one of many examples of infrastructures created in Caracas with a vision of the future for the time in which they were developed, I consider that this is one of the reasons why they are still in force for the population, thanks for sharing, I liked it a lot" andreaelina
