Life of a Driver

Hey there, everyone!

There are many interesting experiences I'd like to share with you about my driving job. I'll, however, start with the most recent. Shall we?

Usually, I transport goods from state to state, with the occasional passengers. We mostly convey clothes and clothing materials. Two days ago, my Nissan bus was loaded and my chief driver and I took off for Benin City, Edo State, our usual destination.

We arrived, offloaded everything, called every customer whose goods we had, and delivered to everyone what belonged to them. Afterwards, we showered in the motorpark's bathroom, ate and relax our bodies a little. We travel at night and so need the bit of rest and sleep before returning to our take off city Aba South, Abia State.

This is where the story begins. So, sometimes things go smoothly for us drivers and sometimes they don't. Yesterday didn't exactly go well.

Set to return, we agreed to take on a nine-men passenger back to Aba South. Man, one of them was a hell of a trouble. He physically assaulted me.

What happened was that they called in a roadside meat seller to buy grilled meat from and instead of buying from him and returning to the bus, they brought the seller aboard, without the slightest intention of paying his transport fare.

Close to where the seller would alight from the bus, I demanded for the fare, on my driver's instruction. Dude was being dubious. Then the head guy among the original passengers, all who happened to be labourers, quite drunk now, insisted I won't be paid. Furious, I asked why only to start receiving punches.

I was literally too stunned by his sudden violence to return the attack. In the end, people intervened, his friends apologized on his behalf. My driver, having resolved to spare us any more trouble, resolved to let go of the money.

So, folks, here I am on this sunny Wednesday, aching all over and thinking maybe I should take a little karate lessons. Why did I ever become a driver? Ha ha ha.

Please be careful on your trip and as much as possible avoid people like them and i think it's better to learn a bit of self defense
