I Love My Country But …. 🏃‍♀️ 😂

Ghana, my country is one I am very proud to be born and bred due to a lot of reasons. Ghana is an African country located in the western part of Africa.

this is me at Ghana's independence arch

We gained independence on the 6th of March 1957 and just this month celebrated our 66 anniversary of independence.

Little by little, Ghana is growing and is gradually being recognized on the international stage. A lot has contributed to this growth and recognition. Football and music are some of the contributors to Ghana’s popularity but other factors have played their parts.

If I am not proud of anything from my country which isn’t true at all, I will always be proud of the peace we have. Ghana is known for its peace and is undoubtedly one of the most peaceful countries in the world. This does not mean we do not have riots at all. We do have riots that can escalate and result into serious injuries and sometimes death but for most times, we do not have such.

Even with these riots, they are resolved quite quickly and everyone moves on with their lives. Elections that are known to carry so much violence is not always the case in Ghana. I do not recall of serious injuries in the last election although there were a lot of unhappy people in the country. 🤔

I love the culture my country possesses. There's room for everyone's culture and we display that beautifully. I come from the North and you should see how we display our culture during festival and other regular days. You should visit the south too and see how they display their dances like Adiza and wear their traditional laces.

The natural resources we have in Ghana is something I am proud of. Ghana is a country blessed with a lot of resources. Although, our development and way of living doesn’t speak well for the resources we have, it is still something I am proud of. We have gold, diamond and bauxite, iron, gas, among others.

With all these we have you would think Ghana should be very developed. That’s far from the case as we’re a country that is heavily buried in debt and ruled by incompetent leaders. Our leaders over the years haven’t been able to maximize our resources and put them to good use but just keep borrowing and borrowing.

Due to their incompetence, our resources are not of much use. These leaders have made life difficult in Ghana which has made most of the youth want to leave the country. Others have already left for greener pastures.

The problem now is that, you need to know someone before you can do anything significant. For most parts, even before you gain admission to sturdy a good course, you need to have protocol. The country has become such that your family name is important and you must know someone. We have a popular saying here that, “who do you know?” or “what is your family name?” or “do you have connections?”. 😂

These sound funny typing out but it’s very realistic. It’s the sad truth. Without anyone of these, you’ll be very lucky to get a good job or a good job to study.

I think this answers the question “Do you think your country has all it takes to help you develop as a person?

Just to be clear, NO, I don’t think Ghana has what it takes to help me develop as a person. Even with the course I am currently studying in the university, all I do is theory which is sometimes hard to comprehend.

When you search “biochemistry” on google, you’ll fall in love with the course because we get to see so many nice pictures and get to know of what is done by other students in other countries.

I quite remember reading on the net where a student was thorn between making a choice to study pharmacy or biochemistry. That tells how much biochemistry is valued in her country. In my country, you wouldn’t think twice about this choice. The choice will be pharmacy. A very easy choice to make.

Aside that, there is not a lot of institutions and things put in place to help anyone grow as a person. The economy is bad and means to even make something for yourself is hard. Everything like I’ve already said has to be done with some kind of connection. And for people like us who do not have connections, the country cannot help us develop.

I sometimes wish I could be in the more developed countries so I could take advantage of the facilities and opportunities they have.

We often joke around of how we want to leave the country and seek greener pastures. Can you blame us? Our families and friends who leave Ghana for more developed countries like the US and UK are doing well for themselves. So YES, presented with the opportunity, I would leave Ghana to seek greener pastures.

Of course, I wouldn’t wish to be in any country but one that could help me develop and help me make money.😮‍💨

Although, I want to leave Ghana and make money, I am very concerned about the negative aspects of some of these countries. We hear and read news of how badly people of color are treated abroad and sometimes we’re just glad we’re living in Ghana despite our difficult times.

That is why if I am given the chance, I would very much love to be in a country where I don’t have to deal with racists and gang members.

Thank you.

I think you meant March 1957. It seems as though your country is blessed with natural resources and a wonderful culture. The leadership seems to be the issue. Going to seemingly greener pastures is always an option but like you said - that could also pose its own problem too.

Oh yeah 1957 thanks for the correction. One can only wonder how far the country will go with a good leadership.

A peaceful country blessed with natural resources is such a great one unfortunately, your country lack good leadership to nurture what you are blessed with. It's a pity anyway and leaving to a better country is always the choice of many even though no place is perfect.

Thanks for participating 👍

It’s too sad as to how things turn out to be the way they are in Ghana 😞. Citizens wanna help bring positive change to the country but the leaders doesn’t want that to happen
