Sometimes Friends can be more dangerous than your enemies

I have worked in many companies and always made some good and nice friends while working there. I still have a friend circle of five friends who used to work together a couple of years ago. Now, we all work in different companies, but we still hang out together on Saturday nights. One of our friends really thinks of himself as the smartest person in the world and he always used to make fun of others. The time spent with him is always full of fun.

Last year, one of my friends from this group and I planned to fool this 'smartest guy in the world'. In our WhatsApp group, we started discussing a tour to Pakistan in the last week of March. It generated a lot of excitement, and others showed a lot of interest in this plan, including the 'smartest guy'. We all decided to take a whole week off from work. Meanwhile, I made a separate group excluding the 'smartest guy' and told everyone else about this April Fool's plan.

We planned meticulously and none of us showed any sign of a prank. I distributed responsibilities cleverly and assigned the dinner and lunch responsibility to the 'smartest guy'. I took charge of train ticketing and made fake tickets using some of my old train tickets for authenticity. I told them that the tickets were confirmed for March 31st and gave them the last train's departure time of 11:30. It looked like a solid tour plan, but everyone else knew it was fake. He confirmed in the group on March 30th that his leave got approved.

The rest of us were having fun in the separate group. He even went shopping to buy new clothes for the trip, he was so excited. At one point, we thought of revealing the prank, but one of my friends suggested we keep the fun going until the end.

He shared the menu for dinner and lunch in the WhatsApp group, planning minced meat with parathas and snacks for dinner and biryani packs for lunch, insisting they would stay fresh until the next day. On March 31st, all others turned off their cell phones. I kept mine on and asked him to reach the station on time. He shared pictures of his belongings and the food in the group and reached the station at 11:15 pm, waiting for others to arrive.

Seeing no one else at the station, he grew worried and kept calling others. I received his call and he was furious with all of us. I told him I was on my way and didn't know about the others, maybe they were on their way too. I asked him to try to hold the train, and we would be there as soon as possible. At 11:35, he messaged in the group with lots of abusive words and voice notes, which I cannot share here. I still replied that I was on my way. The next message from him was a disaster, saying that he was waiting for me at the station and the train had already left, but we could catch it at the next station by road.

At 12 am, on April 1st, we called him and said, 'Happy April Fool's Day!' and told him to come outside the station as we were waiting for him to have dinner together. He was completely shattered and speechless with our behavior. Without saying another word, he came out silently, nodding his head, with two bags in his hand, one full of delicious food. We all laughed like crazy, and he smiled too, amidst cursing and swearing. What else could he do? We had dinner together, and he took the rest home with him.

One of the best things about him is that he took it all very sportingly because he is like that himself. If I were in his position, I'm not sure if I would ever talk to any of these guys again, but he just forgot about it, and we are still brothers.
