Once Upon A Gift That Left A Good Impression

Has anyone gotten gifts to a point where they feel they've received too much and want to be the one giving?

I'm one of them because growing up, most of what I used especially wears were gifts from people. If there is one person who has received so many gifts, I could come out to be that person. Well, I know many others are in this shoe as well. But my point is, it's almost difficult to have a memorable gift from the regular inflow of gifts for someone who receives a lot of them and randomly.

Seeing the prompt, I didn't think much to decide the particular gift I'll write about. And that is because the gift left a very rare memory for me and I'm even happy to share it while I reminisce back in time. So I'll share it in a form of a story, a true life story about a gift hehe.

More than 8 years ago, during my secondary school era. I wasn't the most punctual student and I had no problem with going late to school because I made sure I got there before the first class began. I was one of those students who didn't like to join in the assembly for many reasons I can't remember now so I intentionally go late and get punished.

Well, I tried to change my intentional acts when the punishment were getting severe but it felt impossible no matter how early I try to get up from bed. I continued like that, taking punishments almost everyday until it was almost holiday time and my birth day.

I had this friend who worked in a Hotel not so far from where we lived then. He would always stop by to check on me before he goes home for his off hours. I can't even say we were close enough to be called friends but I appreciated his act of care even though not openly.

My birthday came and this guy got me a gift in a tiny box... "Wow! My first ever birthday gift from someone outside my immediate family." I screamed in my heart.

As he stretched his hand to give me the box with a wrist watch in it, he said something that stuck in my heart for a long time... "Your birthday gift madam, use it well for your school and be the best". The wrist watch wasn't like the regular ones I had seen, it was so beautiful that I could already see myself checking for time every minute.

He revealed to me then that he had been watching me and how I go to school late most of the days, he thought a time keeper gift would change something about it for me and he searched for one that would suit my uniform. I had one of the best smiles on my face as I decided in my heart that I would never go late to school again.

I used the wrist watch through out my last days in school and it got bad, I felt bad parting with it but that also meant I was grateful to the friend who got it for me. Until tomorrow, I still remember this one gift I got and I guess it's for the reason it was given to me.
