The man I would love to spend a day with... Rev. Dr. Gbenga Odebiri

From early childhood, I grew up to know Reverend Dr. Gbenga Odebiri, who is the current President of the United Missionary Church of Africa (U.M.C.A. ), as a pastor, mentor, and second father. I know that no man is perfect, but Rev. Odebiri has shown an exceptional and exemplary fatherly role even as a leader. Some years ago, a friend claimed not to know the church but knew the Reverend. It is amazing how loving such a man of God is. I would like to mention a few of his attributes that I admire.

SIMPLICITY
Beyond being a man of God, the man of God has a simple lifestyle and is very approachable. He is one man who gives respect and audience to anybody, irrespective of age or status. I was surprised on one occasion many years ago that he gave me an audience when I had concerns. I was only a little boy, yet he was willing to serve as a guide. Equally, he has a simple and cheerful face, almost always smiling.

DRESS SENSE
Rev. Gbenga has an admirable and exceptional dress sense. Whenever he is in corporate attire, his color combinations and styles are something to admire, and if he were to wear his native clothes, they would be simple.

HUMILITY
A family in church once shared with me an experience of an encounter with the Reverend several years ago. The family had been away from church for a while due to some financial challenges. The Reverend had come to their house, spent time with them, and eventually took the family on a drive-out without any form of condemnation. When you see him in a crowd, there is a high chance that you will miss him. He is not the kind to reveal who he is or seek recognition.

SELFLESSNESS
The man of God has on countless occasions volunteered his convenience and finances for the satisfaction of people around him. He seemed to have some allowances for time and money he has prepared for those who may be in need.

TEACHINGS
I love the way he dissects his teachings. He breaks the Word of God to identify with current situations in our lives. I am always happy to hear him preach. His jokes are relatable and simple. He does not mix the standards of his teaching to suit the audience. He is able to relate practical experiences to his biblical teachings.

DICTION
I just love his spoken English. He has a funny way of mixing his English with Yoruba. His diction is admirable, and sometimes he coins words that amuse and interest the audience.

MONTHLY MESSAGE
I do not miss receiving his monthly messages. I have been receiving his new month message for many years, and this is the same testament given by a few other people that I know.

How he is able to do all these things can only be by grace, and I would love to spend a day with him to tap into and learn from him the beauty of life he has. He has a beautiful wife, who is a woman, and two children (male and female).
