A CHANCE ENCOUNTER

Before I started my one year program, I had no proper plans about anything, the idea just came up due to the fact that I didn’t want to spend another year at home doing nothing academically. I took the bold step to make that decision for myself even when I wasn’t sure of what was ahead of me. For the first one week when I was applying for the program, I had to make all the inquiries myself because there was really no one to assist me in that regards. Especially due to the fact that I made the decisions mostly on my own and out of the blue.

On one faithful day, I was lucky to meet a girl at the office where I was making inquiries on how to get everything done. She was not so friendly with the way she talked but I still took the bold step to ask her the questions I have because she has been working on her admission a little longer than myself and she has done almost everything. I was a bit confused of what I needed to do because the admin was really busy trying to attend to everyone. She also saw that I was having a hard time to follow up with all the information I was being bombarded with and she volunteered to help.

Before we parted ways, we exchanged contacts and that was how we started doing some things together and before we knew it, we became really close. I never knew I’d be able to be friends with her at first because she was looking like someone who wasn’t interested but I guess we were both lucky to open up to each other. During our time in that program, we were one of the closest friends and even after the program, we were both lucky to gain admission into the mainstream.

She was given admission to study chemistry and I was given admission to study Human physiology. Both of our faculties are at different locations within the school premises and they don’t even cross part but then, we still get to see each other every now and then and also communicate online. Even more interesting, she lives just few blocks away from my hostel and I can always stop by to say hi if she is around and she can also do the same too.

I feel really blessed to have a friend like her because she is always looking out for me and I also try to do the same but I will say she is doing more, hehe. I remember when we were both still waiting for admission, she always made sure to call and we both encouraged each other to keep having hopes of admission and it feels really good that we got it. I won’t have asked for a better friend, she ticked most of the boxes of the kind of friend that I needed and I’m happy that little confused state I was brought us together.

If I had everything figured out all by myself I doubt if we would have been friends because we weren’t even in the same faculty. Sometimes our lack of knowledge of something is the best for us because we might just get to learn even better than someone who already have such knowledge. I don’t think our friendship will ever end at this point and I will make sure of that because she is a good person and I have to appreciate her for all the things she did for me and she is doing for me.
