WHO IS THE GOVERNMENT?...

Who is the government?...
This morning whiles in a taxi and stuck in traffic, there was a heated argument between two gentlemen in the back seat. The driver smartly cautioned them that it was too early in the morning for such exchanges and honestly, it was getting out of hands.
I suppose you're wondering what the argument was to pique my interest. Guess what, they were arguing about the government (Aban) and the heartbreaking hardship in the economy.
There and then, the question struck me, who is the government?

Basically, government denotes the exercise of authority over an established community or a state and it can be politically grouped into Executive, Legislature and Judiciary. Talk about ruling, law making and enforcement, they falls under this structure. Now my focus is not on the divisions and what the term stands for literally, but rather, on the populace of the state.
It is true the economic status of the country is nothing to boast about and it gets worse each day. But have you asked yourself as an individual, are you contributing to make it better, or you are adding up to the already collapsed structure.?
The only possible way to even have a taste of change is if individually, we start acting responsible and be upright and not become extortionists.

Some institutions employ individuals not based on competences but rather from the whom-you-know principle, or monies paid to them. Even in our school systems, some students get enrollment based on monies paid on their behalf and not because they qualified. Bribery and corruption originates right from our homes, localities and spread across all four corners of the nation, including our authorities.

The market woman would buy her goods and add about *50% -100% of the purchased amount as profit. The food vendor who buys foodstuffs from this market woman already would spend a lot of money on her purchases. The driver transporting the purchased goods would also charge an amount higher than he should. With all these put together, the food vendor will surely sell at a price that would favor her. The final consumer would also bare part of the cost.
Talk about poor attitude towards work; lateness, absenteeism, neglecting duties and other related factors that affects productivity. The cycle goes on and on nonstop, but at the end of the day, we blame it all on the government.

So I ask again, who is the government?...

From where I stand, the government is not just about the suit-and-tie the political structures and all its attributes presents. It also involves the citizens, the entire populace. If everyone pulls weight and we all act responsibly, perhaps the economy may not entirely transform , but it sure would have a positive impact towards change.
We are the government.

Technically we can only call ourselves the government if only we have a say in the affairs of the country,
But now that everything is rigged, I’m not sure about that anymore

True, but if individually we also change our ways, we can make impacts in each other's lives rather than waiting on the higher authorities.

I like your vision and approach, if people become more dependant on them selves rather than on the government than that is a great thing to happen.

Sadly we don't see that happening. Thanks for your contribution.

The whole “whom you know” principle is the root of many problems in the country.
So many unqualified people are found at places and positions they are not supposed to be and they have no idea how to effectively even do their jobs.

You've said it all. It's rather pathetic but sadly that is the system we have.
