Splinterlands art Contest week#285 (Giant Squid)

A little introduction for the Contest. Every week Splinterlands Community holds an art contest on Hive.blog.
The participants have to either Draw one of there Cards from Splinterlandscard.com in their own art style or they have to make something inspired by these cards and their characters . The whole point of the contest is to be orignal , creative and to show case Art . Some basic rules are applied . Participants can take part once a week and no plagirism or copying other artists work is not allowed at all. winners are rewarded with SPT tokens and Curators Curate such posts too so Participants have a great way to learn and earn here . I also have been taking part in this Contest every Week .

For my entry this week i'm drawing a water element card Called (Giant squid ) Basically its a giant Colosal Squid with Thorny head and big tentacles . The beak of this squid also has Sharp razor teeth . The squid is all blue with hints of Purple pink and teal . So that was the characteristics that i saw in the card. Which now leads us to our Step one which is sketching the character in my own art style .

So i started sketching with my 2hb pencil i made a badic Colosal Squid then added thorns to its bulbous head and made the tentacles overlaping and wrapping each other . The end of every tentacle had these leaf like cups and i drew those as well . Then i drew the beak and his angry eyes with a crown shape on his head . Thats my intial sketch .

Now for the coloring part i select the ouside of my character and inverse the selection which makes the character just in selection i fill in my base color this was and rest of the coloring i will do by clipping different layers on top of this main base layer.

Since its a Squid and there is no clothing so the rendering is basically shading its skin and tentacles for that i use lasso tool to select some portions and start shading with the gradient tool i do that and guassian blur blendd the layer keep on clipping more layers this way i did thi ombre gradient egfect on the squid . You can see slight colors like teal , blue , purple , magenta and pink on one side i had my refrence minimized too so thats how i colored the squid .

next i added color to the eyes and the beak the beak is supposed to be white sharp teeth but the eyes were magenta glowy pink so thats how i rendered theh charater in the first stage.

Now i start making the background . Since its a giant Colosal squid it had to be under water so i made a sea green and blue gradient layer . after that i added some rocjs and corals in the back and some sea weed.

now i changed the lineart color and added some highlights to the eyes . i also added some texture to the squids skin and i somehow wanted to make it glow so i duplicated the base kayer and turned it into a turquiose color . After that i set it to add in blending mode and guassian blurred it .

i did some color adjustments and added my water mark .

Here is the final result. Tbh every week i learn more and more about drawing by participaying in this contest .
