Does views matter on hive ?

Yes it does but not necessarily the rewards

image.png

I was very happy to see my post making it to the Peakd Daily Top Award, after all the amount of effort that was put to make that post with that long video along with so many photos was way above my average post. Being not a video content creator, I am not pro in editing all clips and making a final cut but whatever I was able to was much appreciated by the viewers, who keep me telling on my face. You can imagine, how it feels like when someone appreciates you physically as a content consumer, when I am walking around the society. This post was shared to our society community over whatsapp, and was well appreciated by many there as well. People who are living in other cities, but earlier stayed here and are missing their friends, enjoyed the post, refreshing their memory.

image.png

Looking at other posts that made to the Peakd Daily Top category, they are rewarded much better than my post, but I guess, those votes are more based on content and not views alone. When it comes to content again length is another aspect that many curators consider for auto voting, but my post was having more visual content, and that could be the reason, it would not have made to those curator's list.

So the question is should we have curation based on views ?

image.png

In my opinion we should have curation based on views after 48 hours, because that is when we see how many unique visits have been made. Of course content would be the main criteria, but views or audience matter, to attract people to this chain. That is the reason, I do a little marketing of hive by putting google reviews and using my post for details and giving only few photos as teaser. Same goes with youtube videos, I circle them back with the hive post, because we can edit the description afterwards.

One other trick I think I am going to include is that include my sign up referral link with 10-20 hive (would 20 good enough ?) reward to start them instantly. Especially those posts which are shared with groups or or as part of google reviews, youtube videos are good place to have such sign up links. Having a sign up link inside a post would tease more than someone trying to find how to do that. WE can also be an OCD's onboarder and get beneficiary rewards from the users we invite, you can always find more details about it in ocd's onboarding program compilation posts. We all are marketing for hive and I think, if thousands of us do the same, then it will have some tremendous results.

What's your opinion on curation based on views ?

By the way, we all bid adieu to Goddess Durga and this time we did celebrate it with some bengali tradition, more to come on that....

Well, I think curation should be based on views
Let’s take a look at platforms like YouTube even though they are not Web3 platforms
The higher your views, the higher your earnings
I think it should be that way

That is ads based not views based.

Ads will be based on views ultimately, a subset.

We don't have ads to generate revenue from views.

Well, they were designed by that model from day 1, people knew when it was implemented. We won't have that model suitable, but then we need to think what model would work.

They started it free and now forcing on users to pay for subscription or see ads. And if the content has more views, then same goes with ads, but hive is different than them because the reward here is short stayed.

but hive is different than them

Since it's stake based, it can change in future.

I love how you want to add something like an incentive with your videos and I’m sure a lot of people will be willing to join us on Hive

Getting a lot of views is very good for self motivations also.

It feels so good when a lot of people see your work and it makes you want to get that feeling again :)

This one was way above motivation, imagine so many people appreciating face to face.

Soon.. I will try promoting Hive on other platform.😊😊

Well, I think, if it has more views, it means , it is good content too.😊

Absolutely right, having many views I think will be a source of encouragement.

It's definitely an interesting idea. I don't know if I pay too much attention to the number of people who actually view my posts. I feel like comments are more what I focus on.

I think, views matters when you are sharing your posts to outside audience, and that promotes hive. For other posts, comment would matter more.

Yeah, that is probably a good point. I don't really share my posts on Twitter like I used to, so it doesn't impact me as much.

First, the truth is that your publication was very well completed with the video and photographs. I can also imagine your joy at the large number of views received. Well, that topic is a little difficult for me, but what really matters is making #Hive known and reaching more people.

The truth is that seeing the effort rewarded with a view to our publication is excellent and if despite the fact that you do not receive the desired support in votes, the important thing is to make yourself known and little by little win

I have also been making video content for a long time and when there are good views people give good reviews, if there are not many views then it doesn't even boot, then comments and votes and views are all more important on this platform.

So the question is should we have curation based on views ?

Put differently....should the algorithm be tweaked in a way that pushes the posts that have more views?

I would personally place views as the major determinant of the overall value of a post, regardless of how much that post earns or how many comments it gets. There are so many silent readers as well and even more so views also count the first-hand impression even if it happens to be a cursory look.

The real glamour in Web 2.0 is the follower base and the the views are deeply integrated into the follower base in an organic way. Unfortunately, it is not the same in Web 3.0, may be it's still a work in progress. But here our follower base is most likely graveyard or become graveyard after 1or 2 years. And the reward system has nothing to do with the follower base or views, that is why it has not been able to feature as a major determinant. In web 2.0 that has been a major determinant on any given day.

This is interesting topic you have floated at the right time, I hope the wider community would take this discussion further and wider. And I hope we reach an objective resolution in "views".

Thank you.

Unfortunately, it is not the same in Web 3.0

Ya, I know it's not inbuilt, but time has come when we reward people who promote hive outside. I never cared about rewards though, for me, the real people appreciating matters a lot.

True.....even a 10% crowd if switches to web 3.0 it can create a chain reaction and network effect.

Views should be very important on this platform and I guess that is why everyone of us have a role to play in promoting hive

Views depend on many things such as the quality of the content, the number of followers and how engaged one is with people. I see you engage with people very well. You have enough followers and good content. You are doing well on Hive. I don't mind that view count can be targeted while rewarding content

Adding incentives or rewards for advertising Hive would up the ante because everyone loves to be rewarded for doing something.

Congratulations on getting the Peakd daily top award! Your post deserved this recognition!
A reward mechanism on views would be a good mechanism to supplement or add to the current one because it would incentivize people to write higher quality content and also to interact more. The problem on Hive is that there are so many front ends that should work together to provide a figure for all posts. For example, your post certainly received more views because peakd does not show the views of those who read your post from ecency or inleo

In Hive, 100 views are always considered good. The community is growing slowly. You have a good amount of visitors to your blog. For an author and blogger that is the motivation, that is the profit.

Cheers.

Congrats on getting the top award. I think with the way Hive voting works, viewers play a small part, while networking makes a bigger impact. Getting a big vote from a whale can be more than getting a lot of small votes most of the time. I do think that if a post gets a lot of views, it will get a good amount of votes, but having a curation based on views might be tricky. I can see how it can easily be exploited.

One of things I like that Inleo is doing is offering value for evergreen content through advertising. Views don't mean much now, but if they have a long tail of value that you can earn based on content being valuable for the long term rather than just a week that could be huge.

I think it'll be impossible to have Curation cased on views, but frontends can actually push posts with a lot of views to potential curators, maybe suggest them to curators for curating. I think because Curation is staked based and mostly dependent on the external legwork of the creator.

Congratulations. You offer a lot of efforts when it comes to content creating and you do a lot to get us traction here.

At one point, I will step out publicly to market hive, for the spendhbd initiative, just waiting for a HIVE-INR system in place, so that people can directly see how to use the money, without a lot of bottlenecks.
