“Lovely dairy herd you’ve got there, Thomas. I bet this group would give some quality milk in due time.” As Kate gave her remarks, like a lost kid looking for his way home, Thomas was busy lost in thoughts, thinking about his next line of action. They just met about a month ago. As new lovers, they shared quality time together before Kate decided to pay him a visit. “Am I really ready for another relationship?”

Thomas was busy questioning his readiness while taking Kate on a tour through his farm. Like a friend in the company of his buddy, a cow among the herd moved close to Thomas and nudged him with its snout. “Aw, awn, isn’t that lovely?” Kate said.

Thomas, on the other hand, gave the large beast a suspicious look; he felt it could read his thoughts as he whispered, “You think I’m ready?” The animal surprisingly replied with “moo, moo,” and Thomas could only interpret this as a positive response and a go-ahead.

As a veterinary doctor with a passion for animals, Kate had always longed for someone with a similar drive and was glad when she met Thomas at a vet store. “Hello there, I could see you are getting so many dewormer drugs for your cow or cows, and I’m wondering if you are purchasing to store or if you’ve got a large herd?”

Like a stranger preventing a traveler’s movement, Thomas was surprised at Kate’s question because he never thought it was anyone’s business if he bought the whole store, but he wouldn’t want to disrespect the pretty lady. “I am sorry, I didn’t get your name, and may I know why you asked, please?” Thomas said.

“As a certified veterinarian, we are partially responsible for controlling drug abuse in animals and can also give recommendations on proper storage and animal medication to ensure their safety. I am Dr. Kate. Can you now kindly answer my question?”

Thomas was swept away by Kate’s reply and couldn’t hide his feelings as his whole face beamed with a fully blown grin.

“It’s so nice to meet you. I am Thomas, and I am here to get dewormer drugs for my dairy herd. I don’t have my diary here, but I can remember having about 50 cows in a shed and having quite a number of such sheds on the farm. Perhaps I can explain more about what I do over a couple of drinks. I believe you may be of help to the business. Please don’t turn down my offer; it’s hard to find someone like you in places like this, you know.”

Like a comic scene overtaking a rather serious performance, Kate was shocked at how Thomas turned the subject from animals to asking her out on a date, coupled with his sense of humor. She felt a bit reluctant. “I have also had some struggle finding a man like this; although this is awkward, but why not?” she said to herself.

“Do you have your phone there? I can give you the number of my superiors so you can call them and make all the inquiries you need.” As Kate replied to Thomas, he wasn’t surprised she was forming hard to get. “I’d rather have your number, please.” Thomas said as he brought out his phone, offering Kate to input her number.

“If you insist,” Kate replied as she collected the phone from Thomas, typed her number, and returned the phone to him. “I’ll save it with Rare Doctor Kate.” Thomas said, as Kate smiled and left.

Thomas reminisced about how they met and how he called Kate several nights before agreeing to have a date with him and finally coming to his house. The whole scenario was all in a month: “Isn’t this too fast?” Thomas asked himself. Kate had also noticed Thomas’ subtle change; he started off with a lot of energy, but she noticed his love urge was gradually dwindling.

“Can I look around, please? I really like this place.” Like a smart tourist in the company of an adventurous visitor, Thomas suspected Kate wanted to be independent for a while. “Sure, why not? Please move around and check anywhere you desire.”

As Thomas gave his consent, he had his own plan, and he knew Kate would find that awkard if he were to share it with her. Her request was a perfect opportunity to execute his thoughts.

As Katie wandered around the farm from shed to shed, he got to a particular one that looked so different from the others; even the straws looked like they needed to be changed.

“How can Thomas not have attended to this?” As she whisked her question in the air like the wind could hear, she took a stick from the corner of the shed and decided to roll off some of the straw, but she noticed the stick hit something. Like her brain had played a trick on her, she decided to try hitting the object again, and it was glaring that there was something hidden under the straw.

Like a child sneaking her way to a party, Thomas sneaked to the cow that nudged him with its snout and said, "Buddy, what were you saying the other time? Can I go ahead with her?"

Like an unresponsive guest at an interview show, the cow was unhinged and went on chewing its cord. Thomas tried rubbing its skin and hoped that would encourage the beast to give a response, but this didn’t work.

As Thomas was making the inquiry, he heard Kate’s footsteps from behind and was surprised that she suddenly stopped. “So this is why you’ve been trying to ask the cow if I was a perfect fit?” Thomas was shocked at Kate’s accusation, but as he turned, he was frozen at what he saw.

Like every other wayward relationship, Thomas had to break up with his ex-girlfriend, who cheated on him. He met Kate three years after their breakup.

Like a student properly keeping records, he had kept all his experiences in his diary, and he decided to let go of his past by keeping his diary in the habitat of his dairy cows. He never knew someone was going to get so close, talk less of coming across his secrets. Katie was right there with his diary!

“You have nothing to worry about, Thomas. More than your care for the dairy cows, I love you and will always do,” Kate said. “Now we have some other things to talk about, Thomas.” Katie added. Like an athlete in a race, Thomas took to his heels; he knew he wouldn’t want to answer any other questions about his funny childhood, which was recorded in the diary.

“I’ll answer all your questions after our marriage,” he said as he ran away. “Don’t you dare, darling,” Katie said as she laughed and chased him.
