Unforgettable birthday
"Happy birthday," everyone in the sitting room shouted at once and clapped to celebrate Victoria as she walked in.
"My dear, age with grace and peace," her mother said as she gave her a warm hug.
"May you live longer to see your grandchildren my daughter," her father wished her as well and pat her on the back.
"You are the most amazing person I have ever seen, long life and prosperity Vic love," Mike, her husband wished and kissed her.
"Ever since you were little, you have been my best friend and now you are still my best friend who is expecting another beautiful baby, happy birthday my baby," Grandma said as she hugged Victoria tightly.
"Thanks, everyone for the beautiful birthday wishes, I can't thank you all enough and I really appreciate everyone for being there for me," Victoria replied to everyone with a very big smile on her face.
The birthday went well and when it was evening, the weather began to change and the wind became stronger meanwhile Victoria's parents were set to leave.
"Father let me drive you because this breeze seems pretty much," Mike said to Victoria's Dad.
"Are you sure because I don't want my child to be left alone in that condition," Victoria's Dad replied to Mike.
"I want to stay with my daughter for some days so you guys can go home without me," Grandma replied immediately she heard Victoria's parents were set to leave and she went into the guest room.
Victoria was 7 months pregnant and she was expecting the baby soon Mike her husband can't wait to become a father as well. The couples are both looking forward to becoming a parent.
"Honey, I was thinking I should take your parents home because the wind outside might be too much for your dad to drive because of his sight," Mike told his wife.
"Thanks, honey but don't stay too long you know how I am," Victoria replied and pecked him on his cheek.
Some hours later, Victoria's phone rang on the dining table but she was in the bathroom and did hear her phone ringing. Grandma came out and took the phone to her.
"Hello.. hello sorry.... am ... who is this and why are you calling me with my husband's phone?" Victoria asked immediately she heard another person's voice on the phone.
"Sorry ma'am but the owner of this phone had an accident and we thought we should call his family to inform them," the caller replied.
"What? Hel... Hello... You said what? Where? How? When?" Victoria asked so many questions on the phone and she was trembling. She began to sweat and the sound of her phone dropping from her hand got Grandma's attention from the sitting room.
"My daughter, are you ok? Who called?" Grandma asked while trying to calm her down but Victoria couldn't say a word to her because she was already in shock. Some minutes later she dressed up and went to check the hospital her family was taken to.
"Hello, am... My family was rushed down here some minutes ago," Victoria said to the receptionist.
"Your name ma'am?" The receptionist replied and then directed her to the ward where her family was, but when Victoria got to the ward, it was only her husband she met there and he was sleeping already with his head wrapped with a bandage.
Victoria sat on a chair that made some funny sound but she didn't pay attention to the sound, she dragged it closer to the bed and stared at her husband before tears rolled down her eyes.
She was lost in thought and drenched in tears when the doctor came into the ward.
"Madam, we are sorry for your loss and your husband is responding to the treatment so I am sure he will be okay," the doctor said to Victoria.
"You are sorry?... What loss?... How come nobody is talking about my parents? Where are they? I want to see them," Victoria burst into tears again while asking the doctor so many questions at the same time.
"I am so sorry ma'am, we... Am... Is there anybody else in the family I can talk to?" The doctor asked because he noticed Victoria's condition and he doesn't want any more accidents.
"I am the only person you can talk to so just spill it out please," Victoria replied with tears in her eyes flowing like a raindrop.
"Am... The thing is that... Am... We lost ...," Victoria fainted before the doctor finished his sentence and she was rushed into a ward and from there to the delivery room because the shock sent her into labor. After hours of labor, Victoria gave birth to a baby boy.
A few years later, Jonathan clocked 3 years old so Victoria and her husband were happy to celebrate the birthday for him since they hadn't done anything celebrating since the death of Victoria's parents.
"Honey can we move all this into the store because I need to decorate this part as well," Victoria asked her husband.
"Of course, all those boxes in the dining room will be moved into the store so that our visitors can breathe well," Mike replied with a smile on his face. Victoria went into to store to create more space and while doing that, one of the boxes fell and it opened immediately it landed on the floor.
"Oh no, this is another work for me," Victoria grumbled and managed to pack the box back but while she was packing it, she stumbled on a photo album. It looked good but old so she grabbed it and opened it. She started laughing without realizing it because of the sweet memories she saw in the photo album, her laughter got her husband's attention and he tip toe to the store entrance to see what she was laughing at.
"Oh, that?" Mike said behind Victoria.
"Yes that, I missed them so much it was like yesterday when they came here to celebrate with me and now they didn't even know what their grandson looks like," Victoria replied and her eyes were filled with tears.
Mike hugged her from the back and said, "I know how painful it is to lose our loved ones, but please honey let's move on for the sake of Jonathan,"
"Ok, yeah we should, I should," Victoria closed the photo album and hugged it for some minutes before she put it back into the box and then sealed it up.
The birthday went well and they took lots of photos for the record.
The writing effectively shows a sudden change from happiness to sadness. When Victoria gets the call about the accident, the description of her reaction ("She began to sweat and the sound of her phone dropping from her hand got Grandma's attention") vividly conveys her distress.
Yeah she was transform from happiness to sadness the same day but am glad she was able to overcome it all
Your write up has shown how human emotions can change with a change in circumstances. Keep writing ☺️💞

Losing someone dear can be really depressing and such news can trigger the unexpected just like Victoria's baby came earlier.
It's a miracle the husband survives and they will always remember the death of her parent on every birthday celebration.
Yeah he was lucky to have what is called second chance and I glad for her because if not for the survival of her husband she might not be able to get out of the past forever
This is tragic
The parents died on the day they came to celebrate the daughter's birthday
Thank God nothing happened to the baby and Victoria's after the shock
Sometimes tragic things happen even when we are not expecting it, thanks for stopping by bro
On a day that was supposed to be a memorable day for her she lost people dear to her. Now I can imagine her battling the memories every year on her birthday. Beautiful writing here.
It was a memorable day but in a sad way I guess because it is not easy to lost people that are so dear to her in one day
Thanks for stopping by
What a bitter sweet birthday. To lose one's parents on one's birthday and then give birth that same day. That is a lot to process emotionally for anyone. The dialogue creates a great sense of a close-knit family and the piece was nicely balanced. I'm not sure though why you use bold type for the dialogue. This is rather unconventional and detracts from the readability of the post in my honest opinion as it makes the eye wander about the page unnecessarily. Consider how the word bold in bold in this comment draws your eye to it and away from the text you should be reading. I would recommend that you run your posts through a grammar editor in future to catch the few minor errors that can be found and easily corrected before publication. It's an easy win to elevate your submissions.
Since photo album is the prompt, I would have liked to have seen more attention paid to this part of the story. Nevertheless, I liked the way you used the prompt to bring her a moment of joy in reminiscence on her baby's 3rd birthday and also her own birthday. It offered a form of emotional closure to her loss.
Thank you for writing in The Ink Well.
Thanks for the beautiful comment, I would take note of all the errors and am glad to participate in the prompt as well
It's not easy to come to term with losing a loved one. The magnitude of the shock that made her deliver her baby the same day can only be imagined.
Family photographs are generally very nice to look at, they bring back good memories.
Victoria went through a very sad time with the loss of her parents but time and family helped her overcome the sadness. Very good dialogues.
Greetings @princess-dara.
