Good and Bad Advise

The best advise I have ever got was from a Safety Officer, telling me when I was a young tradesman to always lock out any equipment that your working on. It seems a simple and obvious but you would be surprised how easy thinks can escalate out of control if this practice is not followed.

When people get under pressure they start to take short cuts. I have seen it many times and have even been tempted myself. Not just on the big jobs but even at a domestic house. I have seem someone turn a circuit off then disappear to work on something then somebody else appears wondering why there lights don't work and turns it on. The bigger jobs are worse though, I suppose the more people on site the more that can go wrong. Maintenance and production teams have different agendas and communications can be misunderstood.

The photo above was a big job I was running. I had to isolate two big production lines then make sure everyone working in the area had there personnel locks on the two group isolation boxes with the machine isolations keys inside the boxes. Both locking on in the morning and then no one could leave site without taking there lock off in the afternoon was an annoying but very necessary job.

Some more good advise I got was from a triathlon club swim coach. I was training for a full distance iron man event and my swim was very slow. I was near last in my age group most times. Not through lack of effort but mostly poor technic. The hard part is trying to work out how to fix it. That is where the coach came in who kept telling me, I needed to get my arse higher in the water. I tried different things but as soon as I engaged more of my core muscles it changed everything almost instantly. My swim times improved and got me into the middle of my age group as well as making my iron man event way more enjoyable.

Bad advise I got plenty of it all the time at work, people telling me how to to my job even though they have no idea them selves. They were usually they` ones paying or financing the job so I had to listen and at least entertain or try there ideas.

That last photo is causing me anxiety.

When you say 'lock out equipment' do you mean like lock a circuit box so someone could not physically turn a circuit back on until you're finished?

It is absolutely amazing the different technique can make. I was having so much trouble with a ninja warrior obstacle where you're swinging from one bar to another... and someone told me to really concentrate on my back swing (pushing myself to swing further backwards) and it was an absolutely massive unlock for me. It made such an incredible difference and really make that obstacle one of my favourites.

yes as an electrician we mainly lock out the main switch or circuit breaker but lots of machinery has different types of energy that can need isolating as well. The last photo used to scare me but in the end it was just a challenge. I will have to tell @consciuoscat about the back swing she struggles on the bars.

Lockout/tagout procedures definitely matter, and anyone who violates such warnings is endangering someone.

When I lived in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, there was (and still is, I think) an Ironman triathlon. I was never a spectator, much less a participant. My only real memory is frustration at the roadblocks and crowds getting in the way of life.

!INDEED there are a number of events out here in Australia that cause headaches for locals too, Luckily none near me. On the positive side I believe it is good for local business with all the extra people in town.

Interesting, considering I don't vote anyone.

You vote on you're own spam comments every day @buildawhale to earn curation rewards. There are many authors on Hive whom you could support, but you choose not to you keep it to yourself don't you Marcus? You are no good Marcus.

I used to vote over 200 unique authors a day, many of which my vote was their only significant vote, and for over a year every post and every vote I would make would get downvoted for $50 because someone was sad I stopped the abuse they were voting on. I lost my ability to choose what I vote on years ago. It has finally stopped, so I started the burn posts to reduce the inflation due to the wreckless DHF spending. Of course I earn curation rewards, like every single person on Hive. I will not be the only person on Hive to forfeit curation rewards, and to expect that is ridiculous.
