Weekend engagement 213: Board games under candlelight.

I don't remember the details well because at that time many things were happening at the same time, but I can say that in mid-2014-2015 Venezuela experienced an unprecedented energy crisis, this was added to other crises, but for me it was the one that most keen. The government established a rotating schedule system by which offices and businesses only worked part-time.

The blackouts were 8 hours a day, every other day, which was really overwhelming, there were days when I couldn't attend classes because there was no light in the classrooms, nor could I withdraw money from the banks or carry out any normal activity. . The cell phone batteries did not last 8 hours and, in fact, it was useless to have them because since there was no electricity, the signal antennas did not transmit any service, so we were left incommunicado during those hours.

I apologize for going on so long, but I wanted to give a little context. My girlfriend and I decided to play board games to make those 8 hours more bearable, we bought bingo, chess and some playing cards. We spent hours playing bingo, I remember that I hated that game, but she liked it, my favorite card game was one called "charge the donkey", a very funny name, basically, it was about stealing cards from your opponent, but To do it you had to guess what cards he had, whoever managed to remove all the cards from his opponent won, I loved that game, we had a group of friends and we used to play it for hours, for us, those games were an escape from the isolation we were in living.

Almost 10 years have passed since then, we have moved twice and we still have the cards and other board games that we used to play with, they are kept in a box of memories, the truth is that, although I haven't played "loading" in years la burra" or any other board game, I have them saved to remember those moments of happiness and joy that were formed within such a dark and discouraged environment.

Bonus: My Yu-gi-oh cards have been with me for more than 18 years, they were a great collection but with the passage of time and moving, I have lost many.

¡Thank you for reading!

¡Until next time!

I almost went back on a trip to memory lane while reading this blog post. Hey you had the most fun with those cards. Charge the donkey 😂 seems like a super cool game, you may have stolen the most amongst your friends.

Oh, I understand having to deal with 8-hour blackouts and being completely cut off from the outside world, it happens to us every day in my country.

But I'm really glad to hear that you and your girlfriend were able to find some small moments of joy and connection by playing board games together during those blackouts, as well as the fun times you had with your friends trying to "steal" each other's cards.
