The Risks Involved When People Know You Invest In Cryptos.

avatar

Besides everyone who knows me on Hive, my brother and a few close friends, my investment in cryptos is like me being in a secret cult. Well, I'm definitely not the only one who keeps my investments (not only cryptos) as a secret, but I do so to avoid three major things.

The first is that I keep my investment a secret to avoid people judging me or making their decisions based on the fact that they know I do have some money or investment somewhere. I've seen many scenarios where people act loyal, fake love and act respectful when they know the other person has money or wealth. Thankfully, keeping my investments a secret has made me have true and pure relationships with people and I know for sure they are who they claim to be and their actions aren't inspired by what they could get or think they could get in the long run.

Secondly, I keep my investments a secret because of the security situation in my country. I believe to be on the safer side, it's best to keep anything that has to do with money a secret since even those strugglimg with finances aren't safe and are living with fears. Money obvious brings attention, and then there's the wrong kind of attention that could lead to the loss of lives and properties. So I'm really just not exposing that part of my life for security reasons.

Finally, "How's your crypto investment doing?", "Which cryptos do you advice me to buy?", "Why is my investment going down?" are all sorts of questions I'm avoiding especially from my family. I remember when I invited my folks to an online investment platform some years ago and it ended up crashing, I was always reminded of their loss when they bring the topic up and since then I've promised to keep my dealings to myself. Both in the days of wins and losses, I'm chosen to thread this path alone and its been peaceful so far.

It's hard sometimes keeping the whole crypto journey a secret, I mean, there are sometimes when I'd like to share some things I know with some friends or family, but I just gotta stay mute to avoid the aforementioned issues. But it's honestly more beneficial staying quiet about the crypto journey than if I do talk about it to people.

Do you think letting people know about your crypto investment is risky? Do you have similar experiences? Please feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions.

Yep, it's pretty risky. Many of us are just trying to find ways to minimise risk involved.

This unfortunate situation where we feel the need to keep our crypto investments secret thwarts our ability to use crypto in trade.

While I would be happy to use HIVE to transact trades with people I don't know. I haven't told any family members of friends about my activity on HIVE as I know that their judgments will be negative.

I've had negative experiences with the local government. So, I would never use HIVE to pay a government bill, even if they accepted the HBD, as I would not want the local magistrate to know the amount of money they could take from me.

Same here, I wouldn't use cryptos to pay any government bill or even use the word "crypto" as a narration because of its repercussion. My crypto activities are really just secrets right now, but I enjoy carrying them as a secret since its more beneficial that way. However, that may change in the future.

I think it's better to keep it a secret to everyone unless we someone truly interested approaches us, and still we don't tell them everything especially the aspects they don't really need to know. We can't know toxic people easily as well, humans are great actors.

And I think you’ve done a good job so far. Sometimes I think you’re from Nigeria, other times, I’m like, hmmn, doesn’t seem from Nigerian. Sometimes im just like, “it doesn’t even matter” lol.

Well, you’re welcome to share your thoughts with us

Do you think letting people know about your crypto investment is risky?

I think it depends on the people who we are sharing the information. I would be willingly share it to someone who knows how investment works but will not for anyone who have negative impression on crypto.

I happened to share my investment here on Hive to some people I know and I was met with negative feedback. The moment they heard about crypto all they can think of is a scam. Who can blame them, that is what they have been hearing on the news.

This will not discouraged me though, I will try to share it to other people. The only risk I can think of right now is they might blame me if they decided to buy in and ended up losing. LOL.

Thanks for sharing.

I do talk about cryptos with my close friends, we probably talk about it almost everyday, but these are folks well invested in cryptos already and I have no fears or wouldn't regret telling them about stuffs. But I'm selective on the things I share for security reasons and safeguard myself from opportunists.
