Making Hives Account Valuable: Sign In Opportunity
There are so many things that Hive can do to enhance the value of the ecosystem. One of the most basic features of the blockchain is account management. This is something we overlook yet can be extremely important in the future.
Hive offer censorship resistant posting. This stems from the fact that people have true account ownership. There is no company or entity which can close down an account. This means the account holder is in full control. The only requirement is to protect the private key. As long as that is accessible, the account can be utilized.
This is one of the many areas where Hive can differentiate itself. It has the opportunity to target a major use case of the Internet which is sitting right under our noses.
Leveraging this means that we could see hundreds of millions of people utilizing a Hive account. Ultimately, it all comes down to have fast we want to grow the system.
We know the names that control the Internet.
What do they all have in common?
One of the first things we must notice is they have the ability to sign into different sites. Over the years, these entities evolved into gatekeepers not only on their own systems but also others. How common is it to see a Log In with Facebook notification when we go to a site?
Entities like to tap into this simply because there is no network admin effort required. Facebook happily takes care of all of it. The trade-off, naturally, is people are being tracked in all they do.
What if we offered another option? Imagine a day were we had banners that said "Log in with Hive".
When it comes to unseating the incumbents, every level of their operation has to be targeted. The sign in process is one of the major ones.
This is an idea that Vitalik agrees with. He recently had this to say about the topic:
If you can get signed in with Ethereum to work and if you can unseat Facebook and Google and Twitter as the login overlords of the internet, that itself is a huge opportunity, right?“
Of course, his idea is for Ethereum to act as the operator. This is likely an improvement over Google or Facebook yet still leaves some things lacking. To start, there are major questions about what is taking place on that chain.
Nevertheless, we can see how this is important when it comes to the dismantling of the existing system.
Making Hive Accounts Valuable
By working in this direction, we are able to add enormous value to having a Hive account. This opens up a much wider spectrum. At present, Hive accounts are only used on projects designed on Hive. If we can focus upon becoming a log in mechanism, we can see how the efforts of non-Hive platforms suddenly feed into this.
Building the value of Hive accounts is not something we typically consider. Of course, there is the rewards and what is being held in a wallet that people focus upon. However, as a feature of the Internet, this is overlooked.
If one can sign into different sites without being worried about tracking, at least from the sign in account manager, along with true censorship resistance, that would be a major step forward in Web 3.0.
We are all aware of how the Internet is completely controlled by Web 2.0 companies.
One of the key concepts is to take a bottom up approach. Can we keep building on the most basic of features, adding value every step of the way? Using Hive as a sign in mechanism is very powerful.
At the base layer, the account management system is a standard feature that operates without a hitch. Anyone, within or outside of Hive can access this. This will likely be enhanced as HAF becomes more popular with developers.
It is easy to overlook how we can make even having a Hive account very valuable. Consider how limited one is if he or she did not have a Facebook, Google, or Twitter account. Access to portions of the Internet are unavailable.
We need to concentrate upon positioning Hive in this manner. We have a power (and reliable) account management system right on the blockchain. This operates in a decentralized manner with the Witnesses all running the software.
This is another basic feature of Hive can be add to the value of the ecosystem going forward.

Hive as a passport to the Web sounds like a great feature, hopefully SOON
A passport to the Web.
I like that.

A passport for feeless Web 3
That is a very good message to put out there. It could be great for something like a Brave Ad campaign.

This is a feature that could potentially feed into Hive account creation massively. I think what we have now is something like creating a Hive account to access certain DApp, when we start having Sign up in through Hive, it could impact Hive sign-ups a great deal.
Also another possibility worth exploring.

People are going to realize it is valuable to have a Hive account in the future.
We just need to keep building.

A great idea , I hope it done
We have that already: HiveAuth
Developed by @arcange
That is true although still need a Hive account to do that.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
We don't have it for general use though. You can't log into most sites with Hive like you can with those others.
It's a blessing and a curse though because it's extremely convenient, but further centralizes their ability to track us all.
Also it centralizes the risk of credentials becoming compromised.
Despite this, I do use it because it's very convenient.
Fuck @arcange that old cuckle depends on Microsoft for SQL. Then asks Hive to pay for it through DHF.
So stay obscured Hive. By design. By the work (or lack thereof) of the same old devs.
On topic though.. @taskmaster4459le is the ideas man... but man those ideas for go where.
Why?
Because your all think Hive is suddenly going to be attractive to the world when it offers so little to the world.
This idea of account sign in ...
You all think that's what the world wants mainly because YOU ALL have taken and overcome the hurdle of understanding and comfortably using Blockchain offerings on the internet.
Regardless of the money element..
The rest of the world just wants an easy login though. Almost the whole western internet world likely has one of the three options described above so the login process is so streamlined that THAT'S WHY those 3 tech overlords dominate login.
So then adding a complicated option (HIVE) is an illogical proposition... on it's own... So then the DRAW/LURE/BENEFIT needs to be what makes a person choose the Hive option.
The only way to do that is to build the backend of HIVE that can offer a user the following:
-Migrate your content from X platform.
-Make a backup of your socials in real time.
-Manage all your future content on Hive..
Fee from censorship, shadowbanning and modification.
OWN YOUR DIGITAL WORLD AGAIN.
Unless that's what Hive can offer the world then this idea like so many go no where and Hive goes no where.
Devs ( "BUILDERS" ) here on Hive just aren't talented though so this thing is likely doomed to be niche even if crypto takes off again.
Anyway this is the truth.
I see and speak the truth.
It's a repetitive theme here on Hive that multiple blog posters claim what Hive can be to the world.... but it's nothing but an idea.... A desperate wish...
Yet nothing on how such ideas could be implemented or how they can be facilitated.
It takes big teams of talent to put big tech together AND maintain it.
This is not happening here on HIVE.
Wasnt HF26 meant to fix all that @blocktrades?
Where is some new talent sandals over socks man.
Anyway the ship drifts.
No sail but the tributaries of the Americas are the force. When the monsoons come though, new paths are inevitable.
Any other account might be closed in other social medias even without a reason. However, I know that my account will be on HIVE forever and this makes me feel free to share anything I want.
Happy Christmas Dear May the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ 🙏 Bring us All Favours, peace, joy and Everything Good 🙏💃🏼
Very Nice Idea 👍

Hive could move towards that direction because it has better features and infrastructure that the traditional ones. But I think the first part is Hive being perceived as valuable as the likes of Facebook or Google. Or is that part not necessary?
Sure value has to be established.
How much value is there in an account that cannot be shut down?
That is going to vary based upon individual. We will see how much people start to see that.
Add in the monetary/wallet feature and it will not be good to have a Twitter account closed.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Right. Putting the monetary value and the ability for one's account not being able to be shut down brings the value to a whole different level compared to the likes of Twitter.
Compared from that perspective, Hive is 10X more valuable and I think anyone would want to have a Hive account.
Nice idea it will bring a lot of new unique users if hive will be used as a sign in option
But we should not compromise on hive account security for Bulding this sign in with hive plugin
There is no way to compromise security since the base layer is protected. It would be up to the apps to incorporate, either directly or plug in.

We already see this play out wonderfully with many DAPPs on HIVE. What we need is an expansion of what we already have and then have it marketed to rest of the world where they can join and enjoy all the features like Usernames, feeless transactions, social media etc.

The DApps are a great testing ground and shows how powerful it came be. One sign in to cover it all.
This could develop into something much bigger.

HIVE was not even built with general purpose smart contracts. Yet we have achieved so much. I'm looking forward to see what Koinos can accomplish.

This is the vision of what many feel web3 will be. A way to use one central ID type account that's used across all applications. It makes sense the first building block for that would be a single blockchain like hive.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It certainly incorporates part of the vision, without a doubt. Of course, there is more to it which will be part of tomorrow's post.

Hive Single Sign-On is a great idea. Front ends don't necessarily have to blog-related. If commerce websites use Hive SSO, they could be relatively certain of a user's identity.
There are many features that this can incorporate. It is a great way for developers to alleviate some of the services they normally have to provide and let Hive take over for them.

I asked AI this question, and it comes up with a pretty good answer.
There are a few reasons why HIVE Blockchain, a decentralized social media platform, has not been able to become a gateway to the internet like Facebook, Twitter, and Google.
Competition: Facebook, Twitter, and Google have established themselves as the dominant players in the social media and search markets, and it is difficult for new entrants to compete with them. HIVE Blockchain has had to contend with these established players, as well as newer platforms like TikTok and Clubhouse, which have gained popularity in recent years.
Adoption: In order for HIVE Blockchain to become a gateway to the internet, it would need to attract a large user base. However, it has not yet achieved the level of adoption necessary to become a major player in the social media and search markets.
User experience: HIVE Blockchain is a decentralized platform, which means that it is not controlled by a single company or entity. This can be a positive attribute, as it allows for more freedom and control for users. However, it can also make the platform more complex and difficult to use for some users, which could be a barrier to adoption.
Marketing and branding: Facebook, Twitter, and Google have all invested heavily in marketing and branding efforts to attract users and establish their platforms as the go-to destinations for social media and search. HIVE Blockchain has not yet reached the same level of visibility and recognition among mainstream users.
Overall, it is a challenging task for any new platform to compete with the established players in the social media and search markets. HIVE Blockchain has made some progress in building a user base and establishing itself as a viable alternative, but it still has a long way to go before it can be considered a gateway to the internet on the same level as Facebook, Twitter, and Google.
This is the very same song I have been and am singing... In fact I've been singing it with my fingers strumming the keyboard too:
But there is still lots and lots of work to be done on the backend. To really make this work, people need real reasons to go through all the steps required to actually create a hive account. But, with a good enough reason, they will, and they will even happily pay for it. Splinterlands demonstrated that very well.
In fact, in today's world people have become particularly suspicious of anything 'free'... as it feels like a trap. It feels that way, because it usually is.
But these things don't build themselves, and while I am working on a plugin to include creating a hive account as part of the wp registration process... (It will actually be a woo commerce 'add on' product)... I have run into lots of time constraints.
Things like this don't pay for themselves either, they take a lot of time, a lot of skill, and only provide indirect foundational benefits (they don't make any money by themselves).
But, since your singing the same song, maybe we can make a chorus out of it...?
Hit me up on discord if your willing to help drum up a baseline of support for this. Like a proper wordpress dev (I'm a network architect in real life and only play a dev on the weekends.)

This is exactly the kind of creative thinking we need to send Hive to the Moon.

I think using Hive to login into things because I just need a keychain to do so. It makes life a lot easier. If I don't then it gets really annoying to manage all those passwords when moving things to a different computer.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Right now, this is exactly what we are doing with hive dapps and if this going to happen with other internet things then it's really massive for HIVE. More traffic and more signups ...What an idea.

You make a great point there and I only hope your voice will be heard to add value to our beloved Hive.
