Hive Marketing in Google Reviews need to change

avatar

Because of the upcoming change in Google Timeline (formerly Location History)

image.png

So if you have been following my posts, then you must be knowing that, I try to do a little hive marketing by putting the post links as part of Google reviews, giving few photos as teaser so that people who need to look at all details, need to navigate to the hive post. And I do most of my work on a laptop, as I am not very comfortable with mobile devices, not a fan of those small keys on mobile. However, a recent change has affected this process and I can no longer write reviews on the web, because, Google is not going to save the Timeline data on the web (or their server), and instead it will now be stored on our device.

image.png

So they wanted me to choose the settings by December 8 2024, and they kept on poking and reminding me every few days, so I gave up and agreed, and then its gone from the web.

image.png

You can still see your contributions on the web, which you have done. However, you can't do any new contributions from the web, because your timeline data will be only on your device.

image.png

You can manage your timeline here : http://maps.google.com/maps/timeline

It's your personal map recording routes and trips you've taken and places you have visited, based on your Location History. You can provide reviews on those places, which you have visited and this is the reason, you can no longer do it on the web.

Google definitely did not become poor to be not able to afford to store the data, but it seems, they did it on purpose to get rid of the troubles in the name of enhancing user privacy, by shifting to on-device system. Some say, The law enforcement agencies keeps asking for user data to Google creating unnecessary trouble and by doing this change, they simply can tell, they no longer have access to this data as it's private to the user. Easy for them, isn't it ?

And they definitely did not see lot of business value in this, otherwise, who does not want profit !! Companies like OpenAI are moving from non-profit to profit mode, the more richer they are, the more money they want from us - Centralized companies will do like this.

image.png

I have still posted a question on the Google Maps help, but I have found out a way to do the review on the device by copying few photos from the camera to device and then posting the review, along with the hive post link. A lot of people see the photos, as of writing this post, 2,051,284 views have been made. If a little of them are curious to discover hive, then we will see them here and these are some regular reviewers, so they will help us spread the word. For hive we are the marketing, as pointed out by @gtg here, crowdsourcing is the key.

I can't really blame Google for that one. I'm not a fan of them turning over that kind of data to the authorities anyway.

I've been doing more blogging on Hive, not just Splinterlands but other content as well, and trying to post links to Hive for that. Not sure how much traction it will gain, but just doing my part.

Well every effort counts, I use to do some mentioning of Hive on some of the contents I created on X, but I think no matter how small, if 5 to 10k accounts can do it, it'll go a long way.

It will gain traction, slowly, but surely, keep doing that.

There will even be concerts of centralized players under the umbrella of decentralization.

You are doing a great job, sir, by passively promoting Hive. Marketing of Hive should always be done in a passive way...in a way that you promote certain things(for instance your experience), but secondarily it also promotes Hive in some form or other, e.g. using peaked to share those experiences.

Thank you.

WE are lacking proper marketing, otherwise the project hive would be on the sky and we all be happy with the price of hive, you are doing good by promoting hive using google review, that's pretty good idea by the way.

Any hive post you share, is a promotion, so when somebody sees it constantly, they will be curious at one point and come over here.

Earning and promoting hive at the same time, this seems very interesting.

I like what your doing friend, not everyone is actively engaging in Hive marketing, seeing the handy work of Google is not really appreciative of user it's more of an exploitation to avoid cases. Nevertheless I'm glad you found a work through around it.

Never knew google has such feature, this is an incredible one though. I love the fact it promotes our privacy though

We can easily promote Hive using Whatsapp. In closed family circle people generally ask which site it is, which app it is, then we can explain what Hive is all about. Google reviews has a wider reach obviously.

Cheers

The greed of these companies is as real as ever, but people always find ways to get what they want, especially on the internet.

Keep up the great work, and let's spread Hive together!

a great idea marketing friend to promote #Hive from another point of view; and the longer we reach more potential users, the greater the income could be.
