Proud to be a Dolphin — Staying more active.

It's a new week and I am excited already. I never knew something was waiting for me to come online to see. I came back from church and decided to check my account perhaps replying to any comments on my post, and lo and behold, I got this from Hivebuzz.

Wow. I screamed! I am now a dolphin on Hive blockchain 😎

You know what? I have asked this question before from friends how does one get to be a dolphin and what qualifies one to be a whale on the blockchain? One answer I kept getting was the number of Hive Power one has determined your level on the blockchain. I was like "Wow". I'd wanted to grow my Hive Power and surpass the 5k level, maybe that could take me to the next level but I was wrong! The answer I got too was wrong. I did my research!

After seeing the above comment, I decided to know more about how I got the Dolphin badge. How did it happen? What did I do to earn that? These were questions I kept asking. I thought of asking a few friends but changed my mind because I was willing to make my post and they might not be online to reply to me immediately. So, I went to my hivebuzz profile to find out. I didn't see it there.

After a while, I typed something on my Google search bar: "who is a dolphin on Hive blockchain?"

Tada!! I got my answer. Something intriguing. It may not be new to the oldies here but to me, it is and I am sure some of you would be knowing something for the first time today.

First of all, your Hive Power balance doesn't determine if you are a dolphin, whale or whatever level it is. It is your VESTS. Oh, wait, I will explain that.

Vests are the blockchain's internal representation of your Hive Power. If you look at the image, the marine character is the one representing my current level (Dolphin) and below it is the number of VESTS I own (10,001,019). These marine species correspond to one's financial commitment to the blockchain. Be it powering up, investing in the blockchain etc.

On the Hive blockchain, there are levels to one's account. They are;

^{Red fish | Minnow | Dolphin | Orca | Whale}

Red Fish: This is the first level when you first create an account. You are a redfish if your VESTS is between 0 and 999,999.

Minnow: The second next level which is between 1 000 000 and 9 999 999 VESTS.

Dolphin: The third next level which is between 10 000 000 and 99 999 999 VESTS.

Orca: The fourth next level which is between 100 000 000 and 999 999 999 VESTS.

Whale: The fifth and last level and you are considered a whale when you own more than 1000 000 000 VESTS.

What Hivebuzz does is monitor the numbers of VESTS a user has instead of HP because VESTS do not vary when accounts aren't involved in blockchain operations but HP balance may change because of Hive inflation.

How does one increase their VESTS?

Be active!

Yeah, you have to be more active and more involved in blockchain operations like powering up Hive, engagement, converting tokens etc. If after 30 days of being inactive, Hivebuzz will transform you into a dead fish. Inactive here means not performing any operation on the blockchain.

Do you want to be a dead fish?

Nah. No one wants to. You know the ocean can be so merciless and if you slack, that could be dangerous. Hivebuzz keeps monitoring your account and notices when you aren't active for a long time.

But the good news is that even if you become a dead fish, you can raise your level again. Hivebuzz will bring you back to life. Just operate and become active again.
