Heavily Compensated
Year end Bonuses are being talked about and it is making a bit of a buzz in my organization. As much as I've complained about the stress of my new job, I'll have to admit that the tentative end of year bonuses are unlike anything that I've ever witnessed. It certainly wasn't like that in my last job which I describe as a great place to work.
While I won't describe money as everything that makes a job attractive, I can now understand why some people don't mind the added stress and pressure of my new organisation despite what it does to their health and potential wellbeing. A lot of colleagues here live very unbalanced lives with work at the center of their lives. I consider it quite sad really, as I came from an organisation that placed a lot of emphasis on balance.
Yet It is all made worth it by some big bonuses which are the rewards for hard work. Or is it? I've noticed that the staff turnover here is quite high and it certainly isn't unrelated to the work environment. The only problem is that I don't think my organisation is really bothered about staff turnover. They have a strategy for attracting experienced talents like myself which actually compensates quite well for the number of people exiting the system.
For me while big bonuses are greatly appreciated, so too is my time and health. I've already decided that my time here will be limited so am committed to making most of it for the period that I'm privileged to work here.
I do think receiving decent bonuses is great, but not if the work environment is not pleasant. I can recall getting 5 x my salary at one company, but I think I also merited that due to what I did throughout the year. I am now the one paying the bonuses and will give more where it is merited.
It certainly shows great maturity and professionalism to put in our committed best at any organisation we work for. I'm doing my best here even though I doubt I can remain here down the stretch.
