Two Useful Tips for Threads!

Hello, Hivers and LeoFinance Community!

When threads were first launched, I used them for a bit. I stopped because I was busy using other apps and activities. Now with the new UI, I am back and with double the activity. I have made over 35 threads in the last 24 hours. I'm not an expert yet, but I have found some useful tips and would like to share them with you.

Thread tags are case sensitive

Making a thread using #spanish and another with #Spanish (uppercase S) will create two different tags. What's interesting is that the UI shows both tags all in lowercase. I found this the hard way, and I'm unsure if this is a bug or a feature. The tip is that if you want a tag to reach trending, always write them the same way.

Check the links below, and you will see that both have different threads:

Links and images count toward the 240-character limit

I was trying to make threads in both #english and #spanish, and sometimes I was adding images. I could not post the threads because the limit was reached very fast. The tip is to use link shorteners and other options to host images. I'll show examples with images:

image.png

In this example, just by adding the link, it already uses almost half of the characters available. Imagine if you wanted to do this thread in two languages, you would not have enough space!

image.png

I think there are better options, but for this example, I used https://app.bitly.com/. Notice how it only uses 29 characters instead of 120. You still have to link with markdown because it's not clickable if it's by itself.

Something similar happens with images.

You can copy and paste or choose from the menu to add images. By default, threads uses hive.blog to host images. And as you can see, that is a long-ass URL. Adding an image this way will use more than 80 characters! Not a lot left to make a cool thread.

For this example, I used https://imgbb.com/, a free hosting site I found some years ago. You can upload an image, choose "Don't autodelete", and then use the "Direct Link" option. This will create a shorter URL like this: https://i.ibb.co/687HM8h/image.png.

This is a great improvement! This way, you will use 34 characters instead of 80.

The only issue with this method is that if your images are deleted from imgbb or the hosting site you are using, your threads will not be able to show the images anymore. I have used imgbb since 2018, and all my images are still available. I guess there is a limit, but I don't use it much.

These are the two tips that I wanted to share with you. If I find out more, I will make another post.

I haven't used Threads before as I'm not into micro blogging or Twitter, but these are great tips of I ever do. Thanks

Thank you! I also prefer to make long or medium size blogging, but Threads has something special that is very addictive and fun! Maybe it is the incentives and, of course, the community.

Very good suggestions especially the one about the photos it takes too many characters to do it the normal way.

I tried to upload a photo today and it didn't show up, I don't know what happened, but I'll keep trying.

I always copy and paste the images. That way, it is easier for me. Threads still have some bugs, but the team will polish the app. I'm sure of that.

Awesome Tips!

I'm waiting for character limit to increase from 240 to at least 300 or photos link doesn't count in it would be much Good.

Well, still Threadstorm makes it more interesting!

That would be nice. I also think the photos should not count toward the limit, but I'm not sure if that is an easy task because of how the blockchain works. Thank you for commenting!

Yeah... Blockchain store everything.. so, maybe increasing word counts would work well!

A thread is not a regular post. It will not appear in your blog or the "all posts" tab. It is a comment (or a reply to a comment) inside another special post that is then shown in their UI.

Great tips, but better that @leofinance chooses to NOT count URLs towards the character count. Twitter doesn´t do it as well as far as I know, and space shouldn´t be a problem, as the blocks on Hive aren´t full yet (maybe somewhere in the future).
If you host your pics on a third party site, you can never know how long it will be there.
Even old posts on hive.blog don´t show the pics anymore!

I agree URLs should not count, but maybe it's hard because of how the blockchain works.

The hosting part is true. Maybe the solution could be self-host, which is up to you and no one else.

jajajaja me parece genial Jon!

Según yo cuando se lanzó la nueva UI se reinició todo. Es decir, el conteo de los tags.

I think this update is very good and important for leo finance users. One of the biggest benefits of this update is that people can comment and reply quickly and the way we see people using two or three types of language in comments, this update is very beneficial for the minute.

I love it, it's super fast, and it's getting close to the web2 experience, something that is a big challenge for most web3 apps. Cheers, thank you for commenting!
