Me vs sport betting
The number of people that are into sports betting today is very alarming and do you know what's even more alarming? Women going into sports betting!
I mean, in my country (Nigeria), I see sports betting as more of what men do because when you go to betting shops, it's dominated by men, and back in the day, I never see women in betting shops.
Maybe some women played it back then too but they were very few. These days, a lot of them are now into it and you start wondering what the hell is going on, Is that how bad the economy is now?
The crazy thing is that sports betting isn't easy to get into, you have to learn how it works unless you want to blindly follow an experienced punter. You hear things like "over 1.5, G.G, correct score", it's like they invented their own language!
But still, we have a lot of women in this field, just giving out free money to betting companies all over the country. You might think I am also into betting because of all those terms I mentioned, but nah, I can also say things like anesthesia and prognosis, does that make me a medical doctor?
I actually dabbled in this "business" many years ago, back when it was still very young. This was the era when people went to betting shops (Bet9ja, nairabet, etc) to place their bets, unlike these days when anybody can just pick up their phone and place a bet (how convenient).
My friend worked in one of these shops back then and I always went there to chill from morning till evening (well, I was jobless then and had nothing better to do).
I always watched people play but I never for once indulged in it, I didn't like it. One form of this betting is called virtual and just like the name says, you try to guess which team is going to win in a virtual match and the whole thing takes place in a few minutes.
One day, I was predicting which teams would win in a virtual game and all my predictions came through. It happened 4 times in a row and my friends kept screaming like crazy whenever my prediction came through.
"you're a wizard at this o, why don't you play? You're wasting your talent just predicting without winning", one of them said. It's true, I was wasting my talent, and so I decided to play. Big mistake.
I made some predictions, staked money on it, and boom! A loss. I was angry at myself and decided to get my money back, and so I played another game and even doubled the stake. Another loss
How do people even remain sane after losing several bets? I was frustrated after just 2 losses but did I back down? Of course not, I placed another bet with my last money and tried to recover all my losses. Finally!... Nah, I lost again.
At that point, I had no choice but to stop. I just couldn't how fast the whole thing went. I blinked once and I went from money to no money. I had to trek a long distance back home that day, and I guess it was okay because it gave me enough time to reflect on my decisions for that day.

The first time I got to know about this I was actually very shocked lol...but then some of them tell me "what a man can do, a woman can do better" they don't know betting doesn't actually care lol.
Lol, exactly, betting doesn't care whether it's a woman playing or not, everybody will still lose when necessary 😅
It's interesting to see how sports betting has evolved, and honestly, the rising number of women getting involved is a big shift. I think it reflects broader changes in how women engage with sports and betting in general. There’s so much information available now, including resources like Premier betting sites Ghana that might help newcomers understand the landscape better. It’s crucial, though, to discuss the responsible side of it. Betting should be about fun and enjoyment, and it’s important to keep it that way as more people jump into the game.
