Let's visit together the Slanic salt mine in Prahova county, Romania
Hello everyone and Happy New Year
It's been a year since we haven't seen each other around here, hehe, just kidding, I hope you had a nice end of 2022, I wish you that the year that just opened its doors will bring you everything you want.
I will start my first trip this year with you in a place in Romania where you can breathe the purest air, Salt Mine Slanic Prahova.
When it comes to salt mines I can say that Romania has some very well known all over the world, known not only for the amazing way they look, but also for the benefits of the treatments that are done there, I have read many reviews of tourists who have suffered from various ailments.
Location of the salt mine.
The salt mine is located in the town of Slanic, Prahova county, an hour and a half from Romania's capital, Bucharest, and somewhere an hour from the most popular mountain area in Romania, Prahova Valley (I wrote instead of kilometers the time you probably make it to the two areas because especially to Prahova Valley sometimes you can make a kilometer of road in more than an hour).
How did we get here?
We were lucky, we came to visit some friends in Ploiesti, and as a thank you for visiting them they offered us a gift of a visit to the Slanic Prahova salt mine (we came here from western Romania).
The road to the salt mine is spectacular, with a road winding through hills of fir and pine trees, and if you drive through here in autumn you'll get a fairytale view.
I should mention that we went to the salt mine in the morning, being a weekend day we expected it to be quite crowded, it was, we arrived shortly after the ticket office opened and there were already many people in line.
The fee to visit the salt mine was 35lei/7euro/person, we didn't pay anything extra to take pictures or film inside.
Access to the salt mine.
Until 2014 access to the salt mine could be done through an elevator that could be taken from outside and it made the connection between the outside and the inside of the mine, but as I wrote in 2014 the elevator collapsed destroying much of the access to the mine, it is outrageous that from then until today the authorities have not had time to repair the elevator and restore access to the mine.
This is where the lift was going down into the mine, it collapsed in 2014, there were no casualties.
This is what it looked like to ride the elevator down into the mine, which hasn't been repaired since 2014.
The mine could not be closed, there were a lot of tourists who wanted to come here either to visit or for treatment, so the authorities found an alternative method of access inside, namely the road way, the way that was used by the machines to extract the salt from there.
The company in charge of operating the salt mine has provided more than ten minibuses that make regular trips from the ticket office to the door of the mine, a very good thing I say, from the ticket office you are picked up by these minibuses after which you will pass through the courtyard of an institution (it should be mentioned that you can not enter the salt mine with any other private vehicle than these minibuses), here you are forbidden to film, photograph, around 15 minutes takes the minibus ride through the underground, descending into the salt mine through these tunnels, which at one time made me a little dizzy, is an amazing experience.
We arrived at the entrance to the salt mine, already after the first steps inside we opened a rather large room, the salt mine has several rooms in the shape of a trapezoid, the maximum height being somewhere around 70 meters, and the best known room is ,,Mina Unirea".
The temperature inside is a constant around 12 degrees, I also took a picture inside showing the time we were there and the humidity quite high.
After a few more steps we come across a mining museum and a salt lake with a wooden bridge to a very interesting waterfall.
As you approach the end of the visit, I mean the halls that can be visited, we can see a bit of Romanian history, represented by the busts of Trajan, Decebal and Burebista, all carved in salt.
I saw something that caught my attention inside the mine there are places where you can actually rest even more you can take a nap, these places also have a little intimidation, I have never encountered this concept in another salt mine.
In case you brought something to eat or drink from home the salt mine has special places for a break, if you didn't come prepared from home here inside there is a souvenir shop where you can get something to satisfy your hunger.
Supernova Planetarium is the largest planetarium in Romania, which surprise is here in the depths of the earth, inside you can have a spectacular experience.
As in every post of mine I conclude whether it is worth or not to come here, so I will do so today and I recommend that you visit the Slanic Prahova Salt Mine, which besides the therapeutic benefits also offers recreational spaces with playground, table tennis, go-karts, billiards.

I never visit a mine, salt mine looks really super so many big spaces under the floor😍😍 and it's cheap to visit seven euros are not too much!
Most of the salt mines open to tourists are impressive, here I refer to those in Romania, of course these mines can be found in other countries.
It's strange to know you're walking through a place where years ago salt, the salt we use for cooking, was mined.
Thanks for stopping by.

You made my day brighter, for that I thank you @LivingUKTaiwan.
Nice travel trip again from you..traces of the past are still evident in the place
Thank you very much for stopping by, indeed the traces of the past can be seen here, in this salt mine they used to extract the salt that we use in our kitchen, from the information I have it seems that today there are still some galleries where salt is extracted, those are closed for tourists.
Wow !!!I would love to be in such place someday , I love adventures..
I'm glad you liked my post about this salt mine, I wish that one day you can have the opportunity to visit a salt mine.
Yeah sure..thanks
Wow, very stunning and beautiful mine tunnel
I'm glad you liked my post about this salt mine.
Yes, I've never been in a mining tunnel before. Inside the cave also looks beautiful
Prahova country that is a country I haven't heard of its name before and thank you for introducing it was a great place where everyone should be interesting of and like what you have shown us the detail I agreed and it show me a lot more about this country wish I have never known about it before.
Thank you very much for your comment, I think there was a confusion, Prahova is a county not a country, and in my post I wrote Prahova county.
Amazing places! I think I will come to Romania more often in the coming years, due to a school I started that has its base there. Nice the ping-pong table!
Thanks for such great visits you are allowing us to make!
I'm so glad you visited Romania, moreover you got to do school here, Romania has so many amazing places to explore the only condition is that we decide where and when we start exploring.
