Christmas Market in Victoriei Square, Timisoara, Romania
Christmas Market in Victoriei Square, Timisoara, Romania
Hello travelers from all over the world
In the previous posts I wrote that I plan to visit three Christmas markets here in Romania, I managed to show you two of them, but unfortunately the third Christmas market was very difficult to get to, I mean not only the distance but also the price of accommodation, food and not only, the prices have exploded during this period, honestly when I see such practices I feel robbed and I immediately say stop.
So I immediately reconfigured the list of Christmas markets and decided to visit another Christmas market here in the neighboring county of Timisoara.
Why did I choose to visit this market and especially why did I choose to visit it now?
35 years ago here in Timisoara the Romanian Revolution against the communist dictatorship began and December 21, 1989 was to be the first day of the Revolution in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
I don't want to go into these details because this is not the theme of my post today, in today's post I want to share with you the joy and magic of a martyr city.
Right here in front of the National Opera in Timisoara, during the period when we escaped from communism, many people came here and lit candles in memory of those who were killed in the revolution.
After a drive of about an hour by car I arrive exactly in the center of the city in the Victoria Square area exactly where the Christmas market is set up.
This year Timisoara has prepared for visitors three locations specially arranged to bring the magic of Christmas to those who will cross their threshold, namely in Victory Square, Liberty Square and St. George Square, today we will go to the most important of them, namely in Victory Square.
Christmas markets in Timisoara opened on November 30 and will remain open until January 5.
We parked the car in the area of the Metropolitan Cathedral (I will write a separate post about the Metropolitan Cathedral here because it is amazing and I couldn't pass by and not show you) and after not five minutes we were already in the Christmas market area.
As we are already accustomed to Christmas markets we have many traditional dishes, decorations, handmade items but also a lot of joy, so let's take a walk through the stalls here to see what they offer.
As at most markets and here I found a huge wheel again and this time I said step on next time.
Being also a weekend day I saw that the market is very popular, a lot of cheerful people who chose to taste the traditional dishes but also to drink a glass of mulled wine.
I like this market because the sellers are nice and the prices are very good compared to other markets.
The joy of the children was also the fact that they could take pictures with Santa Claus and the reindeer sleigh.
Another attraction was a little train that people could ride through the center of Timisoara.
We couldn't resist the temptation and chose to eat a langos (that is two).
My dears, our visit in Victory Square here in Timisoara has come to an end.
THE END!

What a lovely Market, so vibrant and colorful. I liked the design of the fountain area, I have never seen such decor before...Also loved the other decor and of course food...Must be a nice experience being in a beautiful market...
Victoriei Square in Timisoara (western Romania) has a special significance, first of all here in early December 1989 began the uprising against the dictatorship in Romania, in less than a few days the revolution spread throughout Romania, more painful is that here in this place many young soldiers died.
That's what communism meant back then, but forget that, I hope those times will never happen again.
Secondly, the most beautiful Christmas market is organized here, in this square, and yes, Romanians are gourmets, Romanians like to eat, so look, this market offers a wide range of traditional dishes.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
Oh, langos 🤤 but I would be also happy with the poppy seed cake 😃
Indeed, the lagos is something special, even if I ate it in Romania, the origin of the recipe as far as I know is in Hungary, awww poppy cake, no words, I love poppy.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
