An 11 km hike through the mountains of Las Tejerías, Aragua - Venezuela / Una caminata de 11 km por las montañas de Las Tejerías, Aragua - Venezuela

Hiking has been part of my lifestyle for a long time, I'm always looking for new routes, new landscapes, and through social networks I found out that on Sunday May 28 there was going to be a hike in the town of Las Tejerías, Aragua state (Venezuela) that looked very interesting, so I went there to participate.

El senderismo forma parte de mi estilo de vida desde hace mucho tiempo, siempre ando pendiente de hacer nuevas rutas, conocer nuevos paisajes, y a través de las redes sociales me enteré que el domingo 28 de mayo se iba a realizar una caminata en el pueblo de Las Tejerías, estado Aragua (Venezuela) que se veía muy interesante, así que me trasladé hasta allá para participar.

The departure was scheduled for 7:00 am, but as is almost always the case, there was no punctuality and we left almost an hour later, something that in this case benefited me because due to delays in transportation, I arrived at 7:40 am.

La salida estaba prevista para las 7:00 de la mañana, pero como suele ocurrir casi siempre, no hubo puntualidad y salimos casi una hora después, algo que en este caso me benefició porque por retrasos en el transporte, yo llegué a las 7:40 am.

The meeting point was the Bolivar Square in Las Tejerías, where there is also a church, Nuestra Señora del Carmen. I hadn't come to this town for years, I was pleased to see that they have made improvements to several places.

El punto de encuentro fue la Plaza Bolívar de Las Tejerías, donde también está una iglesia, Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Tenía años sin venir a este pueblo, me alegró ver que le han hecho mejoras a varios lugares.

There were a lot of people gathered there, music, security and an entertainer informing that they were giving out bracelets with numbers for the raffle that would be held at the end of this event, I went to take one.

Había muchísima gente concentrada allí, música, seguridad y un animador que informaba que se estaban repartiendo unos brazaletes con número para la rifa que se haría al final de este evento, yo fui a tomar uno.

While waiting for the walk to begin, I also took the opportunity to walk around the Bolivar Square, it is small but beautiful.

Mientras esperaba el inicio de la caminata también aproveché para dar una vuelta por la Plaza Bolívar, es pequeña pero está bonita.

After a while they announced that we were going to start, it was already 8:00 in the morning. The 11 km route went from the center of Las Tejerías to the Country Club El Placer, located in La Esperanza sector, going up through the mountains.

Al rato anunciaron que ya íbamos a comenzar, ya eran las 8:00 de la mañana. La ruta de 11 Km iba desde el centro de Las Tejerías hasta el Club Campestre El Placer, ubicado en el sector La Esperanza, subiendo por las montañas.

The morning was very cool because it was cloudy, I just hoped it wouldn't rain. We walked through the center of town, past the mayor's building and out to the Panamerican highway.

La mañana estaba muy fresca porque estaba nublado, sólo esperaba que no lloviera. Caminamos por el centro del pueblo, pasamos por el edificio de la alcaldía y salimos a la carretera Panamericana.

When we were going through that part someone called me, I turned around and it was my friend Virginia, I was happy to meet someone I knew, from then on we walked together.

Cuando íbamos por esa parte alguien me llama, volteo y era mi amiga Virginia, me alegró encontrarme a alguien conocido, a partir de allí caminamos juntas.

As it was Sunday, there was hardly anyone around and those who were there looked at us in surprise, like the workers in the photo below, probably thinking: where are these people going so early in the morning?

Como era domingo casi no había nadie por ahí y los que estaban nos miraban sorprendidos, como estos obreros de la foto que sigue, seguro pensaban: ¿a dónde va esta gente tan temprano?

There were not many vehicles on the road either, but the event organizers had a truck with music leading the walk and clearing the road for us. The local police also accompanied us with some motorized officers.

Tampoco había muchos vehículos transitando por la carretera, de todos modos la organización del evento tenía un camión con música encabezando la caminata y despejando la vía para nosotros. La policía local también nos acompañó con algunos funcionarios motorizados.

We came to a turn-off and now we could see the mountains we were heading for, the whole atmosphere was starting to be a bit more rural.

Llegamos a un desvío y ahora veíamos las montañas a las que nos dirigíamos, por aquí todo el ambiente comenzaba a ser un poco más rural.

Then we passed by a bridge over the Tuy River and I remembered that recently, in October 2022, Las Tejerías experienced a tragedy due to heavy rains that caused landslides in several hills. The images I saw on television were shocking, the water that came down the ravines along with stones, trees, sediments, etc, destroyed many houses and businesses leaving more than 50 dead and several missing.

Luego pasamos por un puente sobre el río Tuy y recordé que hace poco, en octubre de 2022, Las Tejerías vivió una tragedia debido a las fuertes lluvias que provocaron deslizamientos en varios cerros. Las imágenes que vi por televisión eran impactantes, el agua que bajó por las quebradas junto a piedras, árboles, sedimentos, etc, destruyó muchas casas y comercios dejando más de 50 muertos y varios desaparecidos.

Many of the bodies were found in this river, unfortunately this is a situation that occurs in several parts of Venezuela because people have been allowed to build houses right where the streams flow down, the natural territory of the river, then nature takes its course and these types of tragedies are almost inevitable.

Muchos de los cuerpos fueron encontrados en este río, lamentablemente esta es una situación que se da en varias partes de Venezuela debido a que se ha permitido que la gente construya viviendas justo por donde bajan las quebradas, el territorio natural del río, entonces la naturaleza toma su curso y son casi inevitables este tipo de tragedias.

Returning to our route, we continue to another bridge, but this time we pass under it, above it is the Regional Highway of the Center.

Volviendo a nuestra ruta, seguimos hacia otro puente, pero esta vez pasamos debajo de él, por encima está la Autopista Regional del Centro.

In this area we found several scattered humble houses and some crops, from here began the ascent.

Por esta zona nos encontramos con varias casas humildes dispersas y algunos sembradíos, a partir de aquí comenzó el ascenso.

Some of us climbed up a dirt shortcut while others preferred to continue on the asphalt road, which was less steep but longer.

Algunos subimos por un atajo de tierra mientras otros prefirieron seguir por la vía de asfalto que era menos empinada pero más larga.

As I got higher up I turned to look at the landscape and saw a large flat concrete area, it looked like a heliport but I don't know if it was.

Al llegar más arriba volteé a mirar el paisaje y vi una gran área plana de cemento, parecía un helipuerto pero no sé si lo era.

After a few minutes the shortcut ended and we stepped on the asphalt again, the rest of the hike was on that surface.

Después de unos minutos terminó el atajo y pisamos de nuevo el asfalto, el resto de la caminata fue sobre esa superficie.

Here there were also some little houses, in one of them I approached the door to photograph a dog, but he was shy and backed away a bit.

Aquí también había algunas casitas, en una de ellas me acerqué a la puerta a fotografiar a un perro, pero era tímido y retrocedió un poco.

As we are in the middle of winter here in Venezuela, that is, in the rainy season, everything is intensely green.

Como estamos en pleno invierno aquí en Venezuela, es decir, en época de lluvias, todo está intensamente verde.

The panoramic views were also starting to get good, we were already at a certain altitude and we could see the town of Las Tejerías in the distance and the beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Las vistas panorámicas comenzaban también a ponerse buenas, ya íbamos por cierta altura y podíamos ver la población de Las Tejerías a lo lejos y la belleza de las montañas alrededor.

Although clouds and fog threatened us, the sun suddenly appeared a little on this stretch.

Aunque las nubes y la neblina nos amenazaban, de repente el sol apareció un poco en este tramo.

The trees and the vegetation in general make this road very attractive, I didn't imagine that within these mountains that one sees from afar from the highway there were such beautiful places.

Los árboles y la vegetación en general le dan mucho atractivo a esta carretera, no imaginaba que dentro de estas montañas que uno ve de lejos desde la autopista hubiese parajes tan bonitos.

Cyclists also participated in this route, and even barefoot people. I was intrigued as to why this person went without shoes, but I was embarrassed to ask him.

También participaron ciclistas en esta ruta, y hasta gente descalza. Me intrigó por qué esa persona iba sin zapatos, pero me dio pena preguntarle.

We had been walking for a little over an hour, but as I was chatting with my friend, it seemed to me that the time passed quickly.

Ya teníamos poco más de una hora caminando, pero como iba conversando con mi amiga me pareció que el tiempo pasó rápido.

While we were walking along this road I saw very few vehicles other than those of the event organizers, this area is apparently very little traveled.

Mientras estuvimos caminando por esta carretera vi muy pocos vehículos aparte de los de la organización del evento, esta zona al parecer es muy poco transitada.

We came to a curve and then we came across an unpleasant landscape, a garbage dump in the middle of those beautiful mountains, fortunately there was no bad smell in the air.

Llegamos a una curva y después nos topamos con un paisaje desagradable, un vertedero de basura en medio de esas hermosas montañas, afortunadamente no había mal olor en el ambiente.

A few steps ahead I saw some pumpkin bushes that were in bloom and it seemed like a good setting to take a picture of me, so I asked my friend Virginia for the favor.

Unos pasos más adelante vi unas matas de calabaza que estaban floreadas y me pareció un buen escenario para tomarme una foto, así que le pedí el favor a mi amiga Virginia.

There were also some gorgeous yellow flowers nearby.

También había por ahí cerca unas preciosas flores amarillas.

According to the organizers who passed by us on motorcycles or in cars, we were already close to the Y (a road intersection), which meant that we were not far from the finish line.

Según nos dijeron los organizadores que pasaban a nuestro lado en motos o carros, ya estábamos cerca de la Y (una intersección vial), lo que significaba que no nos faltaba mucho para llegar a la meta.

Meanwhile the road continued to surprise me, look at these bamboos, the perfect frame for a photo.

Mientras tanto la vía seguía sorprendiéndome, miren estos bambúes, el marco perfecto para una foto.

I also want you to see the garbage dump from afar, it is the white strip that stands out in the photo below, a wound in the mountain.

También quiero que vean el vertedero de basura desde lejos, es la franja blanca que resalta en la foto que sigue, una herida en la montaña.

We reached the Y, where the organizers had a hydration point and from there the road went downhill.

Alcanzamos la Y, donde los organizadores tenían un punto de hidratación y a partir de ahí el camino fue en descenso.

In this area we start to see houses again, there are a lot of fenced land. Most of the people who live here are dedicated to planting crops or raising animals.

En esta zona empezamos a ver casas de nuevo, hay muchos terrenos cercados. La mayoría de la gente que vive por aquí se dedica a la siembra o la cría de animales.

We continue to see huge trees, notice the nests hanging from this one:

Finally, at about 10:15 a.m. we arrived at the finish line, the Country Club El Placer.

Finalmente, como a las 10:15 de la mañana llegamos a la meta, el Club Campestre El Placer.

There was music, hydration, free fruits and massages, and stalls selling chicha (cold drink made of rice and milk), ice cream and snacks. Besides the club has a restaurant that offered soup and beers, most people bought beers 😆.

Allí había música, hidratación, frutas y masajes gratis, y puestos que vendían chicha, helados y pastelitos. Aparte el club tiene un restaurante que ofrecía sopa y cervezas, la mayoría de la gente compró cervezas 😆.

The club is very nice, has extensive green areas and many stables, although I didn't see any horses there.

El club es muy bonito, tiene unas extensas áreas verdes y muchas caballerizas, aunque no vi ningún caballo allí.

I walked around the facility and saw some cows in the distance behind a fence.

Di una vuelta por las instalaciones y vi unas vacas a lo lejos, detrás de una cerca.

Afterwards we sat around to rest, the organizers announced that there would be a dance therapy and many people joined in to relax their muscles.

Después nos sentamos por ahí a descansar, los organizadores anunciaron que habría una bailoterapia y muchas personas se sumaron para relajar los músculos.

After a while a very heavy rain fell that lasted about 15 minutes, so we all took shelter indoors. When it stopped the raffle started, there were many prizes but I didn't win any hahaha, my friend Virginia didn't win anything either, but the important thing is that we had a great time and added a new route to our track record 😊.

Al rato cayó un palo de agua que duró unos 15 minutos, así que todos nos refugiamos bajo techo. Cuando paró de llover comenzó la rifa, hubo muchos premios pero no me tocó ninguno jajaja, mi amiga Virginia tampoco ganó nada, pero lo importante es que lo pasamos muy bien y sumamos una nueva ruta a nuestro palmarés 😊.

The activity ended at about 1:00 in the afternoon and we were informed that there were problems with transportation, the promised buses had not arrived to take us back to the center of Las Tejerías, so many of us decided to walk back so as not to waste time. I think we had been going for about an hour when suddenly a bus appeared on the road, so we were able to get back faster. Well, I say goodbye with a last shot of the spectacular mountains of this town in the Aragua state, I hope you enjoyed the route, until the next adventure!

La actividad terminó como a la 1:00 de la tarde y nos informaron que había problemas con el transporte, los autobuses prometidos no habían llegado para llevarnos de vuelta al centro de Las Tejerías, entonces muchos decidimos volver caminando para no perder tiempo. Creo que teníamos una hora en marcha cuando de repente apareció un autobús en la vía, y así logramos regresar más rápido. Bueno, me despido con una última toma de las espectaculares montañas de este pueblo aragüeño, espero hayan disfrutado la ruta, ¡hasta la próxima aventura!
