A Day at the Chrysanthemum Festival in Lahr - Germany
Hello everyone. How are you? This month we visited the city of Lahr for the annual Chrysanthemum festival. We were greeted by a beautiful gymnast figure made entirely of chrysanthemums, surrounded by a circle of flowers. It looked fantastic. Everywhere was a riot of color, with yellow and red chrysanthemums and there were many different types of chrysanthemums right at the entrance. People were enjoying themselves and we joined in the fun.
There was a giant Ferris wheel at the festival, colorful and very fun-looking. Every corner was like a work of art. For example, there was a small but beautiful statue of a girl next to an old cafe door. The entire city was filled with flowers and the view was even more striking against the backdrop of the blue sky. Everywhere was decorated with chrysanthemums. it felt like we were in a flower wonderland. There were incredible spots to take photos. We could either sit on a bench and relax or wander through the flowers. The scenery made you want to dance.
We were particularly impressed by the exhibit called the "Chrysanthemum river". They had created a river made of flowers, with bridges placed over it. We also couldn't miss a tree decorated with flowers. Some chrysanthemum varieties even reached up to 2 meters in height, unbelievable. There were chrysanthemums in every color here.
Another thing that caught our attention was that even the fountains were decorated with chrysanthemums. People were sitting around them, enjoying coffee and chatting. I absolutely loved the smell of these flowers.
In the middle of the festival there was a concert area. People were having a great time, enjoying live music. Everyone was in high spirits and luckily the weather was perfect, with the sun shining brightly. Every lamppost and column in the city was covered with flowers and the beauty of it all was breathtaking.
As we continued we came across various figures made of chrysanthemums: a dancing woman, a flower representation of the god of love and even a giant pyramid made of white chrysanthemums. It was an impressive and unforgettable festival. The flowers were arranged so neatly. Oh, there's a familiar face: the cheerful organ grinder we had seen before was here again 🎶.
There were incredible sights here. For example, a wonderful flower-filled cart decorated with ornaments. A stylish lady passing by with her cute dog looked like a painting. It was a true pleasure to chat with people and feel their wonderful energy. Everyone was interacting and spreading happiness at the festival.
As we wandered through the exhibits, we walked through a massive tunnel made of chrysanthemums. Each one was like a work of art. The colors, scents and arrangements were dazzling. Oh, we even ran into the queen of the festival. She looked so graceful and striking in her traditional costume. We had the chance to speak with her and she told us that different arrangements are made every year for the festival. So every time you come here, there's always something new to see. 🌸
The surroundings were so full of flowers that wherever we looked, there was a new burst of color. The wooden pitcher figures, wooden balcony details and street decorations created a sense of peace. We couldn't help but think about how much effort had gone into such detailed arrangements. Slowly we continued our city tour. Narrow streets were filled with colorful little trains and an old-fashioned bus carrying people, while the festive atmosphere in the streets was enchanting. Even the colorful balloons hanging over a street created a wonderful view against the blue sky. It was impossible not to smile. 🌈
We came across a spider web-themed decoration further along the way and it was so intricately and beautifully designed that we were amazed. We then spotted a man in medieval costume playing a music box. The pictures on the old wooden music box looked like a journey into the past. Ah, the energy of everyone was so high that we even found ourselves dancing.
In this festival the beauty of nature, the energy of the people and the fantastic organization all came together. Everywhere was an ideal spot for a photo, every frame like a postcard. Dancing among the flowers sparkling under the sun. Could there be anything more perfect for a festival? It was such a happy day. Both adults and children were fully experiencing joy at this festival. Could it get any better? We reached the ruins of a castle built in 128. The area surrounding this historic castle was also decorated with chrysanthemums. Over 10000 chrysanthemums were used to decorate the city. The view was breathtaking and everyone was busy taking photos. My mom was also very happy, saying "It’s really beautiful" 🌸
When we climbed to the top of the castle, we spotted a stork nest. What a wonderful detail. We were also drawn to an old printing press displayed here. The machine was entirely adorned with flowers and felt like an open-air museum. While examining the mechanism, we reflected on the old printing techniques. The gears, ink reservoirs and rotating cylinders were impressive. In such an atmosphere, we felt like we were traveling back in time.
Every corner around us felt like an aesthetic work of art. The arrangements made with yellow, purple, small and large chrysanthemums were captivating. Oh and I remembered that stylish lady with her dog we saw on the road. Some of the chrysanthemums here even reminded me of that little dog. It was moving to see how much effort went into preparing this festival. Benches covered in flowers, perfect cafes for a warm cup of tea and music playing in the background… everything offered a peaceful atmosphere. The harmony of the colors and scents warmed our hearts in the cool autumn air. These flowers brought life to the gray days.
Then we ran into that cheerful organ grinder again. Just like the streets of old times, his music touched people's hearts. A little further ahead, we found an art exhibition by children: tiny sculptures made from sawdust-filled burlap sacks, hand-painted pictures, a flower-decorated easel and even a frame. We immediately had our photo taken in that frame.
The different areas of the festival were also quite fascinating. For instance, a master was using a bellows to make fire bigger and smaller while doing metalwork with tongs. Right next to it a massive wigwam provided the perfect setting to sit and have a drink. It was such a colorful atmosphere, with flowers everywhere. In short, this festival was a feast of color and happiness.
That day in the chrysanthemum paradise felt like a dream. There was beauty at every corner, a story with every step. We hope you loved this fairy-tale festival as much as we did. 🌸
