Exploring Jakarta's History in the Palmerah Area
Hello everyone, how are you? I hope you are well. I want to share my travel story exploring the streets of Jakarta with the Palmerah Route. There are a total of eight places that I stopped by with various historical stories. What are the stories from each place I visited?
A number of stations in Jakarta still use buildings from the Dutch era. One of them is Palmerah Station, but only a few of this building remain. Only a house-shaped building and is located at the back which is rarely seen.
This station was founded in 1889, indeed the Dutch building is very thick in this station, it should be.
Palmerah means red border and rest area and became the entrance to Batavia. During the Dutch era, Palmerah was a strategic area. and became a marker between the Batavia area and Buitenzorg. That's the historical story I got during the tour.
Jalan Pemuda Siswa located in South Jakarta is a historical area. Where the area is a railway and tram line. However, because Jakarta has changed, the area has become a residential area. In fact, currently there are railways and trams in residential areas.
If you walk in the Pal Merah area, it is very identical to a media name in Indonesia, namely Kompas. Kompas became a media phenomenon that was founded in 1965 and became a gathering place for journalists. In the past, when it first started printing, Kompas managed to print 4800 sheets. Kompas itself was founded by P.K ojong and Jacob. Kompas has grown bigger. Currently, Kompas is not only a media company, but also a tissue and hotel company. I just found out when I was on tour.
I have told you about this place. You can stop by in my writing about this place.
In this place, I also visited the Djipang house. Another name for this place is Landhuis Jipang. This place is a legacy of Prince Arya Djipang and was destroyed during the New Order era. This Djipang house is very unique and has Javanese architecture. Prince Arya is a famous person in Palmerah and has quite a large land in Palmerah.
Then I also stopped by a famous publisher under the media company. Kompas. Kompas is still a publisher sought after by many novelists. The first novel published by Kompas in 1993 was Mila, initially a short story published in Kompas. And using a computer system. And then the tissue business developed into Paseo. Developing into Kompasiana and Kompas.com (originally a website for journalists whose writings were not curated). Then it developed into a hotel, namely Sueti (now Santika).
I also didn't forget to stop by the Indonesian media using English. The purpose of publishing English-language media is so that other countries can read Indonesian news. There have been many changes in the media. I just hope it can still be published for a long time. Don't forget I also passed by a janur seller. There are many myths about this janur. I don't know much.
The god of the northern sky. To facilitate worship when selling. The companion god is Quan-im, the god of compassion. I have also explained this. So, you can stop by my story
Finally, the Palmerah Police Station which has a typical Dutch building. All of these buildings are still original. it's just that this building is colored differently. In the past, this building was the home of a rich person in Palmerah. Is that all I can share? What do you think? Is my story interesting?
