Istanbul, Turkey: magical views on the Bosphorus

We are embarking on a new journey that will take us to unique and magical places. We are going far away to discover a dream city, and this time we are starting off by enjoying the water and the busy and crowded shores of the Bosphorus.

This time, this exciting journey is in Istanbul, visiting in several posts some of the most emblematic places of the enchanting capital of Turkey.

Eminönü

We started near one end of the famous Galata Bridge, in a really busy and popular area, where there are some decorated boats moored where they serve food, very popular food and at a very good price.

So we do as all the locals do and eat there, but we can only really choose one thing, a fish sandwich, I imagine it was freshly caught there, because there are many fishermen and they put it just like that, on bread with lettuce. And to drink? A strange drink, which looks like the liquid that the pickles are kept in, which also goes inside the glass, they say all the time that it is a very healthy drink. And it is not bad at all.

From different points along the coast we can see this famous and busy strait, from any of its banks we see large commercial ships or small fishing boats passing by, and many ferries full of people contemplating the spectacle of the landscape that surrounds them.

Because there is much to see around, we see the minarets over the sea, those elongated elements of the mosques that like pointed arrows shoot towards the sky, while many people gather around, some people passing by and others staying, with their fishing rods, on the bridge. A truly original image of everyday life in a city as special as Istanbul.

And we only have the most magical pleasure left, sailing on the Bosphorus at dusk, so that lovely light gives us a more serene and beautiful touch, making everything look even more charming and magical.

We continue to see the minarets of the mosques under a golden light, while some seagulls fly over the bridge hoping to get lucky with the fishermen's leftovers, and everything is mixed together, ferries, people, facades of buildings and mosques. Under a gentle movement of the water that welcomes us.

As the light of day fades and the hustle and bustle of the day calms down as well, we are left with images, moments and views of chiaroscuro, dark silhouettes in front of an orange sky that is fading.

Turkish flags flutter in the gentle breeze, and other curious buildings appear on the edge of other banks as we sail through those calm waters with so much traffic and so much to see.

Impressive palace facades, such as the Dolmabahçe Palace that we will also visit, others of luxurious hotels, and also towers and ancient walls that once protected the city, until it was conquered, Constantinople ended up becoming the capital of the Ottoman Empire. A fascinating history.

There are also many stories on every trip, and as we pass by another of the famous bridges, we think about the next trip, another great visit that I will soon share in a new post about the magical Turkish city of Istanbul.
